BulldogTom Posted March 7, 2015 Report Posted March 7, 2015 New client today. Has a very simple return. SS, interest and a rental property in CO. Prior return preparer has the Fed and CA return, but nothing for CO. I am not an expert on CO law. Does a CO return need to be filed for the rental activity? I will research later when I have some time, but thought I would ask here if there was someone who knows. Thanks in advance. Tom Newark, CA Quote
MsTabbyKats Posted March 7, 2015 Report Posted March 7, 2015 I always do a non-resident return for the state where there is rental property. Quote
jklcpa Posted March 7, 2015 Report Posted March 7, 2015 I think you need to file CO based on this, from the instruction booklet: Filing Information Who Must File This Tax Return Each year you must evaluate if you should file a Colorado income tax return. Generally, you must file this return if you were: A full-year resident of Colorado; or A part-year Colorado resident who receives taxable income while residing here; or Not a resident of Colorado, but receives income from sources within Colorado; and Are required to file a federal income tax return with the IRS for this year; or Will have a Colorado income tax liability for this year.
