TAXMAN Posted February 2, 2015 Report Posted February 2, 2015 Virginia preparers, I notice that on page 2 it wants DL #'s just like on Efiles and ifiles that VA has. If the first 2 #'s are 00 it only puts in last 3 and there is no warning that we left it off. How are you handling this? Ask client or make a copy? Quote
Gail in Virginia Posted February 3, 2015 Report Posted February 3, 2015 It is optional, so I am leaving it up to the taxpayer. Virginia apparently believes this will help cut down on identity theft. Quote
TAXMAN Posted February 3, 2015 Author Report Posted February 3, 2015 At a meeting informed that they were going to use this and 5#of ss and 4 letters of name to verify it is YOU. Was not told it was optional. Quote
Gail in Virginia Posted February 3, 2015 Report Posted February 3, 2015 From the tax professional section of Virginia Department of Taxation, "Guide to Tax Form Changes:" Last 5 digits of VA Driver’s License Number - New field(s) added to the Forms 760 and 760PY (not Form 763). The Department requests this information from each taxpayer who has a Virginia Driver’s license. However, it is not required information. The agency is requesting this information to better serve taxpayers i.e., additional information to assist with identity fraud detection. I think it has to be optional; some people who are required to file may not have a driver's license. 1 Quote
