Pacun Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 It seems that you check line 61 on form 1040 for the Husband and open form 8965 for the wife. This is the situation. Husband made 100K and had insurance for the whole 2014. Wife has ITIN and is exempted. Can line 61 be checked and invoke form 8965 for wife? Quote
ILLMAS Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 I think if it's a joint return the form 8965 is for both, looking at fake return I just created to duplicate your scenario, but under part III you will select the wife and use "C". Quote
Pacun Posted January 27, 2015 Author Report Posted January 27, 2015 I know that for the wife, I have to select that but I wonder if I should check line 61 for the husband. Quote
easytax Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 No --- line 61 is for ALL on return --- if ALL did not have coverage for all of 2014, then DO NOT check, open 8965 and complete as described. 3 Quote
Pacun Posted January 28, 2015 Author Report Posted January 28, 2015 How do I check for the husband? He had insurance all year. Quote
grmy2h Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 Do not include persons that had coverage all year. Quote
Pacun Posted January 28, 2015 Author Report Posted January 28, 2015 What will be the difference if I open the form and don't select anyone because they all have health insurance vs clicking on the box on 1040? Quote
grmy2h Posted January 28, 2015 Report Posted January 28, 2015 Who Must File (Form 8965) If you are required to file a tax return, you do not have minimum essential coverage for yourself and everyone else in your tax household, and you want to report or claim a coverage exemption for yourself or another member of your tax household, file Form 8965 to report or claim coverage exemptions. Attach Form 8965 to your tax return (Form 1040, Form 1040A, or Form 1040EZ). If you are unable to check the box on your Form 1040 series return indicating that every member of your tax household had minimum essential coverage in every month of 2014 (and therefore you are filing Form 8965 to report or claim a coverage exemption or are making a shared responsibility payment), you do not need to take any action to indicate that some members of your tax household had minimum essential coverage for some or all months in 2014.
