FreedomTaxed Posted January 9, 2015 Report Posted January 9, 2015 Clients already know we have soda and coffee. And sadly, we have a history over several years of being "creative" with Schedules C and E. Changing the creative culture is very difficult; I dearly wish the IRS would make good on its threat to fine preparers $1000 for unreasonable positions and $5000 for reckless positions. That way, the taxpayers would stop expecting us to lie for them. Oops, did I use the L-word? Sorry, I meant to say "be creative for them". Quote

I hope you aren't implying that anyone on this forum is "being creative" or outright lying for their clients. I certainly hope that isn't what you meant, and I hope you aren't saying that's what you have been doing either! As for your other statement, I don't think taxpayer care one bit about fines and penalties that are imposed on us. 1 Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted January 10, 2015 Report Posted January 10, 2015 I don't do "creative" outside the regulations. I am totally offended by any business owner that tolerates such actions. 1 Quote
Lion EA Posted January 10, 2015 Report Posted January 10, 2015 Time to look for another job or go out on your own where you can be honest. Don't hang around and be tainted by perception even if you aren't one of the "creative" preparers at your firm. 3 Quote
Lee B Posted January 12, 2015 Author Report Posted January 12, 2015 Walking thru Walmart this weekend saw the Jackson Hewitt kiosk had a sign up: "$ 50 Walmart Gift Card to anyone who has there return prepared here." Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted January 12, 2015 Report Posted January 12, 2015 Drove by Liberty this morning. Lady Liberty was sporting a sign "Free $50 cash for doing your tax return." I don't need clients that would fall for that kind of gimmick..... Quote
kcjenkins Posted January 12, 2015 Report Posted January 12, 2015 Walking thru Walmart this weekend saw the Jackson Hewitt kiosk had a sign up: "$ 50 Walmart Gift Card to anyone who has there return prepared here." Really? They could not even get their grammar right? Quote
