Denne Posted February 15, 2008 Report Posted February 15, 2008 I am trying to create an efile and have a problem with the Zip Code area. I get an error that the Employer zip code on the W-2 is wrong. Well....it isn't according to the taxpayer and the employer. I also looked it up on the Internet and found the same zip code. I tried to just leave the zip code off and then get an error message that eo efile the zip code has to be on the form..... By the way we used the same zip code and efiled last year. Going around in circles here! Quote

Denne Posted February 15, 2008 Author Report Posted February 15, 2008 Thanks, Jack. I did that and still get the same error message. Good suggestion, but not the problem this time...darn it! Quote
Denne Posted February 15, 2008 Author Report Posted February 15, 2008 Still wondering if anyone has something else for me to try..... Quote
Bart Posted February 15, 2008 Report Posted February 15, 2008 Thanks, Jack. I did that and still get the same error message. Good suggestion, but not the problem this time...darn it! Try taking all of the address out so you only list the employer name and ID number. Quote
Teri2414 Posted February 15, 2008 Report Posted February 15, 2008 You need the address to efile. Check the state abbreviation. When this happens to me I usually find that I have the wrong state abbreviation not the wrong zip code. Quote
AnnieR Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 If you have more than 1 w-2, check them all AnnieR Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 Check the 1099-G. If the zip code field is blank, select it and delete it. I know it sounds crazy, but what have you got to lose? It worked for me many times last season. Quote
kcjenkins Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 Usually, it's not the zip code, it is the STATE that is the problem. A typo that changes MA to MS or vice versa, for example, is easy to make, and easy to overlook, too. I've sometimes caught myself putting in my state out of habit, too, when the employer's town name is the same as the name of a town in my state. Quote
Teri2414 Posted February 16, 2008 Report Posted February 16, 2008 exactly! Minnesota, Maine, Michigan, Montana...... Quote
Denne Posted February 19, 2008 Author Report Posted February 19, 2008 Sure enough.....it wasn't the W-2 that I was looking and and there was a space before the zip code! Thanks....it went right thru after I fixed things. Quote
