MAMalody Posted September 14, 2014 Report Posted September 14, 2014 I have not done one of these before. How are they? Are they worth the time? How do you do them? Quote
mcb39 Posted September 15, 2014 Report Posted September 15, 2014 I have not done one of these before. How are they? Are they worth the time? How do you do them? They are decent, but sometimes boring. You just log in as instructed. You are pre-registered. You sit in front of your computer and take notes. I really thought that this one was necessary as we know so little. Have to start somewhere. 1 Quote
MAMalody Posted September 16, 2014 Report Posted September 16, 2014 I signed up for it. Will see how it goes. Thanks for the input. 1 Quote
jklcpa Posted September 16, 2014 Report Posted September 16, 2014 I signed up too. It's free and only an hour so there's not much to lose by listening. With that short a time, I think it will be mostly an overview though, but a good place to start as a refresher before I get into the more detailed seminars on the topic. 1 Quote
Kea Posted September 17, 2014 Report Posted September 17, 2014 Is anybody else getting an error message about installing Windows Media Player when they sign up? I've tried it from 3 different computers (2 PCs and a Mac), all of which have Media Player installed (or Flip4Mac so that QuickTime on the Mac can read the Media Player files). Granted, I never use Media Player so I had to configure the version that was already installed on one of the PCs. But even after that the registration website says it's missing. I've spent more time on this than the 1 hour the seminar will even last. Grrr. Quote
Don in Upstate NY Posted September 17, 2014 Report Posted September 17, 2014 Is anybody else getting an error message about installing Windows Media Player when they sign up? I get that error message. And if I click the install link it offers to instal Media Player for Windows XL (I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64.) My solution - drop the webinar link into my Chrome browser. Quote
Lynn EA USTCP in Louisiana Posted September 17, 2014 Report Posted September 17, 2014 I get that same error message - Win 7 Pro - and I do have Windows Media already installed. I clicked on the link to watch on a different format and chose flash. No problems with the flash choice. Quote
Kea Posted September 17, 2014 Report Posted September 17, 2014 I tried the link from Firefox and Chrome. In Firefox it says it requires the player. In Chrome it seems OK but when you check the details, it says It can't verify the presence of Media Player from Chrome. Thanks for the tip about Flash. I'll try that when the Webinar starts. Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted September 17, 2014 Report Posted September 17, 2014 IRS uses Flash to produce their webinars. Go to www.adobe.com and download the latest version of Flash. It is a free download. It will NOT HARM your computer. Once the latest version of Flash is installed, you will be able to view the webinar with Internet Explorer. I have used Internet Explorer since its inceptions and have not experienced any of the major "flaws and issues" that have been purported to be inherent with it.Make sure that you have upgraded to IE11 and have installed all Microsoft updates. 1 Quote
Kea Posted September 18, 2014 Report Posted September 18, 2014 I ended up using Flash from the Chrome browser on my Mac. Worked perfectly. I wish they would have mentioned the Flash option on the sign-up screen when they were doing the computer check. That would have saved me a few hours of aggravation! Quote
mcb39 Posted September 18, 2014 Report Posted September 18, 2014 I also had to use Flash. Had no clue, but was not connecting, so clicked on Flash and away we went. Yes, would have been nice to know in advance. Quote
MAMalody Posted September 18, 2014 Report Posted September 18, 2014 I used Windows Media Player with Windows 7 Pro with no real problems. For my first webiinar it wasn't too bad. Thanks for the link. Quote
