Randall Posted August 26, 2014 Report Posted August 26, 2014 Just got a new computer, loaded ATX. Which is the better way to get returns loaded on the new computer, Backup/Restore or Export/Import? Quote
mcb39 Posted August 26, 2014 Report Posted August 26, 2014 I have always used Export/Import; but others will not agree. Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted August 26, 2014 Report Posted August 26, 2014 What years are you referring to? Quote
Randall Posted August 26, 2014 Author Report Posted August 26, 2014 Just 2013. I'll use my old computer (W7) for earlier years work. And for you Jack, my new computer is W8 with touch. Ha. Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted August 27, 2014 Report Posted August 27, 2014 If you export/import, you will get no e-file information. Restore is the only way to get ALL data from the returns. Quote
Randall Posted August 27, 2014 Author Report Posted August 27, 2014 Thanks Jack. I'll need that. Quote
MAMalody Posted August 27, 2014 Report Posted August 27, 2014 Is there a way that you can backup all the returns without doing each one individually. I guess that would be a batch? I can't seem to find a KB that tells me how to do that. Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted August 27, 2014 Report Posted August 27, 2014 From Return Manager: Click on "Returns" Then click on "Backup Returns" There should be a big green checkmark at the top saying your data is being backed up automatically every time a return is closed. If you do not have the big green checkmark, click on "Adjust automatic backup settings" and turn on automatic backup There is a button there "Copy backups to local storage" that will create a backup file on a flash drive or a remote storage drive. It will create the same backup the program is doing, in the location you tell it to, but only once. If you wish to make a new backup in the original destination, click on the box beside "name" and all returns will be marked Then click on "backup" Quote
MAMalody Posted August 27, 2014 Report Posted August 27, 2014 Hmmm. I thought I had tried that, but I must have missed something. I will give it a shot and let you know how it goes. Thanks. Quote
mcb39 Posted August 28, 2014 Report Posted August 28, 2014 Just export return files to a jump drive and import into ATX on the new computer. You already have all the efile info on the old computer if you ever need it. Simple, simple!!! Quote
