MsTabbyKats Posted April 21, 2014 Report Posted April 21, 2014 I used TRX for 2011 returns. As I recall, I have a CD...and updates were automatically downloaded. If I install the program using the CD...Will it automatically update? Do you think tech support would be of assistance? I have all the returns saved as PDF ....so it might be easier to just buy the 2011 TaxAct...and re-do if I need to amend. Any thoughts..... Quote
Terry D EA Posted April 21, 2014 Report Posted April 21, 2014 I wouldn't take any chances either. Keep the old machine around if you can. Quote
MsTabbyKats Posted April 21, 2014 Author Report Posted April 21, 2014 I called TRX to ask. So, the rep told me I could install from the CD...but I couldn't get the updates because Red Gesr is no longer in existence. It'll be easier to just buy TaxAct if necessary. I should have asked that rep how his tax season went....lol. Quote
Kea Posted April 22, 2014 Report Posted April 22, 2014 I've had some luck copying the entire UTS1x (specific to each year). Install software Rename folder UTS OLD (or whatever) Copy UTS folder from old PC to new That should get you the updates & all client data. Note: I'm not on my work PC right now & I'm going off memory. Good luck. Quote
SCL Posted April 29, 2014 Report Posted April 29, 2014 ms tabby...my opinion, if I understand your question. give up on trx and forget about tax act. go back to atx. Quote
Terry D EA Posted May 2, 2014 Report Posted May 2, 2014 I don't know about going back to ATX. I read an awful amount of problems this year again. Appeared to be off to a rocky start and smoothed somehwat at the end. I used OneDesk and had virtually a trouble free season. Little learning curve, good price and stability. Just my 2 cents worth Quote
mrichman333 Posted May 4, 2014 Report Posted May 4, 2014 CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS! I was on the couch with my laptop, I put it on the end table and when I got up my foot tripped on the cord and my laptop went crashing to the floor. So, I got out my portable hard drive that I back everything up on and plugged it into my husbands laptop and somehow the cord got hooked on the office chair, so when I slid across the room my portable crashed to the floor. Both drives are now dead. Then I get a call from a lady that needs 5 years of returns done. I do inline backups but only files back up not programs. But believe it or not I was able to launch TY2010 from the setup on the backup. I installed the 2011 program and it updated. Had to use the onedesk web based, because I do not have the CD's. Hate the web based, it seems to only use interview mode. I will be calling Monday to get the CD's Quote
