Margaret CPA in OH Posted April 3, 2014 Report Posted April 3, 2014 A high school student is taking college level classes but not half time - smart kid - but I don't want to spoil the AO credit when the big money payouts begin. Is it appropriate to take Lifetime Learning until he is enrolled as at least half time student? Quote
Catherine Posted April 3, 2014 Report Posted April 3, 2014 I don't see why you cannot -- it says "lifetime" for a reason. Plus since not half-time not eligible for AO anyhow. 5 Quote
gfizer Posted April 3, 2014 Report Posted April 3, 2014 I have utilized the Lifetime Learning Credit in the past for high school students enrolled in college classes. Shouldn't be a problem as long as the expenses are paid to an eligible institution. Quote
BulldogTom Posted April 3, 2014 Report Posted April 3, 2014 That brings up a question I had about AP classes. This is personal for me. My son is taking 7 AP classes this year. Cost us about $700 for the exams. If he successfully passes the exams, they will count for college credit towards his degree. Can they be taken for LLC? They are paid to the College Board, which I have no idea if it is an eligible institution or not. Thanks Tom Hollister, CA Quote
kcjenkins Posted April 3, 2014 Report Posted April 3, 2014 Don't know for sure, but if you call them tomorrow [i just tried and they are closed now] at 212-713-8000 they should be able to tell you. Quote
