Janitor Bob Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 OK...This has now happened on three separate occasions on three different returns. I complete the return...and check it...everything looks fine and error check looks good...I close the return. Then I go back into the return to make a change and the taxpayer's first name is gone! The problem is, of course, easily fixed...but makes me wonder why the name disappeared in these three cases...things that Make you go "hmmmm" Quote
glgcpa Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 I have had this happen a couple of times this year, and had the same thing a few times with 2012. Who knows? Maybe the Raven just does not like their name!! Quote
Tax Prep by Deb Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 I've had it several times with the 1099G. Quote
michaelmars Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 now we know where one named people like Madonna got their names, stolen from your tax returns. 1 Quote
jklcpa Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 I don't think this is anything new with ATX because it would happen in my returns prepared with ATX at least once or twice a season. I always assumed it was something on the keyboard that I was pressing since the 1040 form opens with the cursor on the field for the taxpayer's first name, would happen on other forms too, or sometimes I'd start to type in numbers there. pikester1967 Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 Well I just ran into Chaz at Woody's Market this morning. My understanding is Stinky Paul and Janitor Bob were at the Spot last night after work. Rumor has it around town that the dinner rolls make you see things that don't really happen? I think JB ate too much last night anyone agree? Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 If the tax program pops up while you are on a different screen, any keystroke you do will be entered in the very first field which happens to be the first name. ATX has a propensity for popping up when you least expect it. I have had this issue often for the last few years. While I am waiting for ATX to process something, I work on another program. Then the 1040 pops up and I am suddenly typing in the tax return instead of the program I am working on. It is more prevalent since I use two monitors. 4 Quote
kcjenkins Posted March 11, 2014 Report Posted March 11, 2014 Yes, I've had that happen, and if you were typing a 'space' at that moment, you get a blank field. Once I recognized that, I'd always hit 'restore' before moving out of the field, and the name would reappear. 3 Quote
pikester1967 Posted March 12, 2014 Report Posted March 12, 2014 OK J.B. the disappearing characters just struck me. Still lost as to why and too busy right now to track it down. Quote
joanmcq Posted March 13, 2014 Report Posted March 13, 2014 If the return auto- saves while you're typing, it wipes out the cell. I had to set the auto save to less often because it was driving me crazy. 1 Quote
