Pacun Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 Is there a better way to report (to the IRS, to prevent CP-2000 audits) the splitting of Itemized Deductions on a couples Sch A ? State tax paid is split on the w-2. Donations, you can label them as Husband donation and wife donations. 2106, you file two of them, now for uniforms and union dues, etc, there are two columns. I guess I don't understand the question(s). Quote
joanmcq Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 I've never had an issue with mortgage interest on my own return even years after the divorce with my ex's SSN on the 1098. It seems once you've filed a joint return, the SSNs are linked in the IRS computer, at least until one remarries. Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 Is there a better way to report (to the IRS, to prevent CP-2000 audits) the splitting of Itemized Deductions on a couples Sch A ? I am sensing that you are an individual looking for answers about how to do your return? Quote
TAG Posted March 7, 2014 Author Report Posted March 7, 2014 Here in Ohio, I often find MFS saves the clients a lot of tax money. Over the course of many years I've had a few (though not many) IRS CP-2000 letters requesting documentation of, most often, the mgt interest. I'm just trying to alleviate wasting time with the IRS. Thanks for your input. Terry Quote
