kcjenkins Posted February 21, 2014 Report Posted February 21, 2014 I know many of you never or seldom go to the Politics forum, and that is fine. But please, do go there and read the thread titled "What happens when a state becomes too powerful". This is not actually a political thread so much as a human rights thread, and a situation so crazy that it's hard to believe any state would ever do such a thing. This family needs all the help they can get. 1 Quote
SFA Posted February 22, 2014 Report Posted February 22, 2014 Definitely take the time to read and follow this story. Shines a bright light on a health care system run amok. Quote
michaelmars Posted February 22, 2014 Report Posted February 22, 2014 Definitely take the time to read and follow this story. Shines a bright light on a health care system run amok. not just health care, when anyone with a little power runs amok. I can't believe this really happened, but I know it did. I would love to hear the doctor's and the hospital's side of things. If I were the parent I certainly would not have stayed quiet for a year. 1 Quote
Catherine Posted February 22, 2014 Report Posted February 22, 2014 Mass DCF has a *horrible* track record -- there is story after story of children being "lost" by the system, handed into the care of someone who supposedly has been forbidden same, given to foster care into homes with known criminals, deaths... and the governor still insists on standing by the department head (his nepot). As for the neurologist -- I'd like to know who gave him permission even to SEE this girl; she was not his patient, and how does a neurologist get involved in a case of flu without the parents' consent? Who pressured the court, as well -- it should have been a slam-dunk to release the girl to her parents. This case stinks on so many levels it is not funny. The parents have kept silent because they were under court order, and have been trying to play by the rules to get their daughter back. As her health fails (in state custody without proper treatment) they are now ready to take extra-legal measures in an attempt to save her life. Quote
kcjenkins Posted February 22, 2014 Author Report Posted February 22, 2014 We tend to just 'assume' that this sort of thing only happens to 'nut-case' families who are 'treating' their child with some weird 'alternative' medical treatment, or denying them any treatment at all The idea that parents who take their child to a world-renowned hospital like Tufts could have the state accuse them of abuse for doing that, and take their child away from them, is just unbelievable! Terry D EA Posted February 22, 2014 Report Posted February 22, 2014 I did take the time to watch this video and it is very disturbing to say the least. All I can say is my prayers are with this family and I do hope they prevail in the end. While the ultimate goal is to regain custody of their child, and once that is met, I hope they are able to sue the pants off of all who were involved in this tragedy. 3 Quote
