Pacun Posted February 15, 2014 Report Posted February 15, 2014 I have two clients and when I check their status on the IRS website, it shows as if I never filed. These are my only two clients whose social security start with 8. Have you noticed that also? Yes, I efiled and if I am not mistaken, one already got the refund. Quote
SFA Posted February 15, 2014 Report Posted February 15, 2014 Verrrry interesting . . . witness protection program? 1 Quote

Pacun Posted February 15, 2014 Author Report Posted February 15, 2014 http://www Good info. Interesting that they don't issue numbers starting with 666. Do you have any clients starting with 8? Can you check if the refund was issued by the IRS? Quote
SFA Posted February 15, 2014 Report Posted February 15, 2014 Hmph. Well that's informative, but not as much fun or intriguing as having a client in the WPP. Quote
Terry D EA Posted February 16, 2014 Report Posted February 16, 2014 I'm glad they won't use the 666 number. It would really make me wonder who they are if they began doing so. I have filed a couple with the "8" in the first digit and have had no problems. But, I'm not using ATX either so I don't know if that is related to your problem. Quote

Jack from Ohio Posted February 17, 2014 Report Posted February 17, 2014 Also; When one applies for a SS# the first digits are assigned according to the state in which you reside - see the list. Virgin Islands, Guam, Puerto Rico, and all railroad have been assigned first 3 digits as well. 001-003 NH 540-544 OR 004-007 ME 545-573 CA 008-009 VT 574 AK 010-034 MA 575-576 HI 035-039 RI 577-579 DC 040-049 CT 580 Vir Is PR 050-134 NY 581-584 PR 135-158 NJ 585 NM 159-211 PA 586 Guam 212-220 MD 587 MS 221-222 DE 700-728 RR All States 223-231 VA 232 WV & NC 233-236 WV 237-246 NC 247-251 SC 252-260 GA 261-267 FL 268-302 OH 303-317 IN 318-361 IL 362-386 MI 387-399 WI 400-407 KY 408-415 TN 416-424 AL 425-428 MS 429-432 AR 433-439 LA 440-448 OK 449-467 TX 468-477 MN 478-485 IA 486-500 MO 501-502 ND 503-504 SD 505-508 NE 509-515 KS 516-517 MT 518-519 ID 520 WY 521-524 CO 526-527 AZ 528-529 UT 530 NV 531-539 WA That process was halted in 2011. jklcpa Posted February 17, 2014 Report Posted February 17, 2014 Please post a cite for your statement KC did provide the cite, and you even quoted it in your last post. Here's another article directly from the SSA's site that says the new assignment method began on 6/25/11. http://www.socialsecurity.gov/employer/stateweb.htm The link within my article about the Randomization takes you to the article KC posted. taxxcpa Posted February 17, 2014 Report Posted February 17, 2014 The numbering system started with the 00's in the northeast, then they were assigned moving south and west with a little ziging and zaging along the way. Quote
