ILLMAS Posted February 4, 2014 Report Posted February 4, 2014 I am currently working on an Indiana individual tax return and I had to enter county they live and work in, and they are being charged a county tax, however there is no withholding for local tax. Should I inquire why the employer is not deducting for the local tax or is it optional and the tax payer pays it at the end of the year? Thanks Quote
KEYWEST_RICKS Posted February 4, 2014 Report Posted February 4, 2014 we for sure see some employers who dont withhold the correct county tax or any at all. it causes the taxpayer to have an amount due at the end of the year. remember that it is based on the county of residence as of 1/1/2013 Quote
KINGCHUCK1971 Posted February 4, 2014 Report Posted February 4, 2014 I've done plenty of IN state returns and most IN cities don't enforce the local tax with holding. So it's truly optional for the local to do so. Quote
