Christian Posted January 25, 2014 Report Posted January 25, 2014 In entering information from an IRA Form 1099-R I find the taxable amount to be reported on line 15b does not show. The correct amount is reported on 15a but the taxable amount does not carry from the ATX info form to the 1040. Quote
Tax Prep by Deb Posted January 25, 2014 Report Posted January 25, 2014 Just a hunch, but did you code it? Quote
Pacun Posted January 25, 2014 Report Posted January 25, 2014 What code did you enter on the 1099-R input? Also, did you enter "taxable amount" on line 2 (I believe)? Quote
Christian Posted January 25, 2014 Author Report Posted January 25, 2014 I coded it 7 and entered the taxable amount fields. However, I did try adding a new payer forgetting it had the same federal id as an existing payer although the name was slightly different (same fiduciary). Sigh Quote
Mr. Pencil Posted January 26, 2014 Report Posted January 26, 2014 the taxable amount does not carry from the ATX info form to the 1040. I would guess it's a data entry problem, but it might be hard to find. Maybe some checkbox sends it through the simplified method or something. Maybe it has to do with data already entered for the same fiduciary. I always expect weird stuff in the beginning, when I'm still learning the new program, it still has bugs, and so much depends on prior year rollover. It's probably quicker to just delete the 1099, check for latest update, restart the program, and re-enter. Certainly do that before calling tech support. 1 Quote
jklcpa Posted January 26, 2014 Report Posted January 26, 2014 Is there a Form 8606 in the return where the taxpayer has basis for IRA? If so, you would need to enter the additional information required on that form in order for the taxable amount of the distribution to be properly calculated. 1 Quote
