jklcpa Posted January 25, 2014 Report Posted January 25, 2014 Why can't users disable the automatic backup feature and use the "export" feature instead to make sure that data isn't lost? At least do that on a temporary basis until ATX sends through the program update to fix this issue. Quote

Trust me. 2013 is NOTHING like previous years. Quote

Mine wasnt even backing up that I was aware of until I went into the admin console I ran the backup and it created some folders. Quote

Thanks jshtax, I saw that in the training videos for the 2013 software and was the reason I posted the question about disabling it for now. Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted January 26, 2014 Author Report Posted January 26, 2014 Let me know how that works for you. This is an entirely different backup the program creates. This one cannot be disabled, and runs in the background as long as the computer is on. TRUST ME!!! Too indepth to try to explain on here. When your C drive starts getting full, remember what I am saying. Quote

When your C drive starts getting full, remember what I am saying. I trust you as I don't think you have any reason to lie to me. I was just saying that under the preferences it gives the option to disable automatic backup. Now if there is some other backup running then there is no reason for them to allow a user to disable the automatic backup process. Quote
Randall Posted January 26, 2014 Report Posted January 26, 2014 I'm not sure how close they are to a fix. I'm no programmer but it seems like there must be some kind of replication loop going on for it to take up that much space. It seems a client backup file would only take about 2000 kb per version with up to 5 versions or so backed up at any time. Quote
Philip1117 Posted January 26, 2014 Report Posted January 26, 2014 Jack, will the update fix the problem or do we need you work around in addition to up date? Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted January 26, 2014 Author Report Posted January 26, 2014 Jack, will the update fix the problem or do we need you work around in addition to up date? Contact me again. I have a workaround that will work until the update comes out. If you are having hard drive space issues, you need to use the workaround until the update comes out. I have no information about when the update will happen. Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted January 28, 2014 Author Report Posted January 28, 2014 Several members have asked me to send them the workaround. I have tried in vain to send e-mails with the .exe file needed to initiate the fix. E-mail programs and providers do NOT allow .exe files to be emailed any more. Those that wish for my help, please contact me again and I will arrange a time to connect to your system and transfer the file. Sorry for the inconvenience. Oh, I did try converting to a .zip file, but had the same results. Seems that every hacker/spammer in the world can send me e-mails with .zip files attached, but e-mail providers won't let my emails through to legitimate recipients. Rant over!! Quote
Crank Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 Thanks Tom & Jack I had to call tech support about this last week when I noticed it was about 3GB for 3 clients. She told me it was because it was backing up the forms and it was normal. Sheesh! Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted January 28, 2014 Author Report Posted January 28, 2014 Not all tech support people are given all the information. This is a major flaw with the structure of CCH/ATX customer and technical support. Trust me, it is NOT NORMAL! Quote
TAXMAN Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 Jack, what is the name of that folder so we can watch. My it guy on the original problem just put in bigger hd. Gots lot of room now. Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted January 28, 2014 Author Report Posted January 28, 2014 Jack, what is the name of that folder so we can watch. My it guy on the original problem just put in bigger hd. Gots lot of room now. No need to watch it. It will grow every hour as long as the computer that is acting as server, or your standalone computer is turned on. You will not have lots of room soon. The more clients in your program, the larger the file that is added every hour. Note my previous post about a workaround. Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted January 29, 2014 Author Report Posted January 29, 2014 Latest on my workaround. I am working on a method of allowing people to download the necessary file. As soon as I have it in place, I will post here. Thank you for your patience. 3 Quote
NECPA in NEBRASKA Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 Thank you Jack. Do you think that ATX will ever do anything about this problem? Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted January 29, 2014 Author Report Posted January 29, 2014 Thank you Jack. Do you think that ATX will ever do anything about this problem? The development team is going to include a fix in the next program update. This was told to me by Kerri Gibson. In the meantime, I am working on a way to get the workaround to those that need it now. 2 Quote
Catherine Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 Jack -- My web site file share portal has a place for "public" documents -- I can set up a file and access there. PM, email or call if you want to use that route. 1 Quote
jshtax Posted January 30, 2014 Report Posted January 30, 2014 Thank you Jack. Do you think that ATX will ever do anything about this problem? That is pretty funny. Not sure they have ever addressed a problem successfully. At least its not working at a snails pace. Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted January 31, 2014 Author Report Posted January 31, 2014 Here is updated info.... I am working on setting up an ftp portal on my server to allow persons to download the repair program. I will be available at home Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014 to assist folks. Abby Normal Posted February 2, 2014 Report Posted February 2, 2014 New to ATX. Where is the data stored? I use Carbonite for backup and I like to backup the actual data files as well as the backups of the data files. But I cannot find it anywhere. Thanks! Joe Quote
