GaCPA Posted January 22, 2014 Report Posted January 22, 2014 Hi Everyone! I am using the ATX payroll feature, and we are getting ready to print 1099s. However, we want all xxxx for the social security numbers except for the last 4 digits, and I cannot find in the instructions, help panels, etc. on how to do that. I find it for the 1040 organizer, but not for 1099s. All help is appreciated! Thanks Quote
Lee B Posted January 23, 2014 Report Posted January 23, 2014 I've used the program for years and I'm not aware of how you would do that. Perhaps you could output the 1099 s and save as pdf s and then modify the ssn. 1 Quote
GaCPA Posted January 23, 2014 Author Report Posted January 23, 2014 We were thinking of using, as a last resort, a black marker! 1 Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted January 23, 2014 Report Posted January 23, 2014 I have not adopted the concept of needing to block out SS# information to the people who are supposed to have it. Quote
kcjenkins Posted January 23, 2014 Report Posted January 23, 2014 Jack, the reason is that those forms are SUPPOSED TO BE MAILED IN ENVELOPES CLEARLY MARKED "TAX INFORMATION ENCLOSED", which makes for an easy target for someone stealing mail to obtain identity theft info. So blocking the numbers is intended to protect against that. 1 Quote
Pacun Posted January 24, 2014 Report Posted January 24, 2014 I read somewhere that showing only the last four digits on some 1099 forms was going to be mandatory. Quote
