TaxMan60601 Posted October 22, 2013 Report Posted October 22, 2013 TP is dual citizen and was receiving foreign unemployment benefits. Is this reportable and taxable 1040 income or? I was unable to find any info about foreign UB in the code. TIA Quote
JohnH Posted October 22, 2013 Report Posted October 22, 2013 Well, there is that general rule that says if it isn't excluded, it's taxable income. Quote
Mr. Pencil Posted October 22, 2013 Report Posted October 22, 2013 TP is dual citizen and was receiving foreign unemployment benefits. I wouldn't assume the foreign system is similar to FUTA. If the taxpayer paid into the fund, it might be non-taxable. Otherwise it might be treated as earnings or as other income, depending on who paid it and why. It also might be exempt under the tax treaty (which is posted on the IRS web site). Quote
Guest Taxed Posted October 22, 2013 Report Posted October 22, 2013 That is nice of the Foreign country to give him unemployment benefits while he is out of that country in USA. I seem to recall my state stops all benefits. In fact you have to verify your address each week when you claim for that week. Quote
