mcb39 Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 Is there a way to find out if a client paid in any estimates? I thought I saw that option once on IRS.gov. In my case, the lady is deceased as of July and we don't know the answer. Son and heir, foolishly shredded all check books already. Quote
Guest Taxed Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 I pull a transcript and it is transaction #766 I believe that will show a credit amount for tax paid. Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 Since the demise of e-services, there is no way other than getting 2848 and calling for a transcript. Quote
Gail in Virginia Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 Actually, the only thing gone from e-services is the ability to enter the power of attorney electronically. If you have a power of attorney on file, you can get transcripts using e-services I believe, Quote
mcb39 Posted October 10, 2013 Author Report Posted October 10, 2013 Pretty hard to get a 2848 from a deceased person. Son and heir is in and out of town and time is running out. Waiting for last important piece of info regarding in-home hospice care which will make all the difference in the world to this return. I will file it then and expect the IRS to make the adjustments if indeed estimates were paid in. These people have had since July of 2012 to get the stuff together. Now, in the final week, they wonder how Mom's tax return is coming. She received a 1099-Int for $26094 of Bond Interest. Quote

The IRS is expecting us to work with a broken system, but our due dates remain the same. Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 I have not tried to access e-services since July. It is my understanding that the whole e-services program was dead due to insufficient number of people using it. Maybe someone else has accessed it very recently?? Quote
Gail in Virginia Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 I logged in to the system before I posted just to see that transcript delivery was still on the option menu, but I did not try to do anything. Quote
ILLMAS Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 The IRS is pretty good in knowing if you made estimated tax payments, put them tax return and sit and wait, if your client gets a letter disallowing the ES payments then they never made any. One of my client once gave me a January 15 (prior year) payment and it was supposed to be the other January 15 payment, in the letter they disallowed the prior year and gave them credit for other payment. 1 Quote
