JACKSORH Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 I could not create the efile because on 1099R (payer 1) states: The state abbreviation should be entered for State 1. The 2-letter abbreviation for Illinois is IL. Each time I key it in and try to check for errors, that error comes up. What should I do? Quote
JACKSORH Posted October 4, 2013 Author Report Posted October 4, 2013 An oversight on my part. I didn't put the state abbreviation in the box for payer 1. Quote
kcjenkins Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 Don't feel like the Lone Stranger, we've all done something like that before. Quote
Lion EA Posted October 4, 2013 Report Posted October 4, 2013 Especially in October! Can't tell you the things I've had to redo, put on the wrong line, etc. It takes me twice as long to proofread in October because I'm tired and make twice as many mistakes trying to not smash into the drop-dead deadline. 1 Quote
Guest Taxed Posted October 5, 2013 Report Posted October 5, 2013 Thanks to the diagnostic feature in most professional tax prep software, it points to the error area. With MeF the business rules are so strict that any string of characters that causes an internal error will be rejected. I have had to modify addresses and other descriptions to adjust to e-filing. I forget which year but I had a taxpayer from a country in Africa and he had a very long lastname with two hyphens. Well it was causing an e-file error and then he suggested why don't I call myself John Smith if that gets me my refund. we had a laugh. Another taxpreparer from my area told me a story about a Kuwait citizen who came here when Iraq attacked Kuwait in the 80s. He had 2 wives and they could not figure out what to do so he said put the name of the wife that you like best. He replied well that would be my American wife who got me my green card. Quote
