Lee B Posted September 27, 2013 Report Posted September 27, 2013 I've started doing more reading about the Affordable Care Act, since I'm getting more client questions. One thing that caught my attention, is that nonfilers will not be able to obtain any health insurance thru the exchanges. Their only option will be to try to obtain Medicaid. So, I'm wondering how many nonfilers will be filing returns in order to obtain health insurance. Quote
Guest Taxed Posted September 27, 2013 Report Posted September 27, 2013 If you want health insurance tax credits or abate the penalty that will be charged later if you don't have the min. required coverage you GOT to file. We have had this system in MA since 2007 and that is exactly how it works. Quote
Christian Posted September 28, 2013 Report Posted September 28, 2013 Virginia did not agree to set up an exchange likely fearing the feds would cut off support after a few years. I am wondering if a non-filer files will he then be able to receive the credits here as Virginia apparently did not go along with the expansion of Medicaid ? Quote
Guest Taxed Posted September 28, 2013 Report Posted September 28, 2013 You will have to ask that crooked Gov of your state that question? Quote
Lee B Posted September 28, 2013 Author Report Posted September 28, 2013 My understanding is that Virginia filers will be able to use the federal exchange and will receive their credits. However any resident of a state that did not agree to expand Medicaid could fall in a gap where they don't have enough income to obtain coverage thru an Affordable Care Act Exchange and they won't be able to get on Medicaid. Christian Posted September 28, 2013 Report Posted September 28, 2013 Yes Governor McDonald must have taken a few lessons from some of our sanctimonious Yankee brethren in Illinois, New Jersey, and New York to name just a few. Quote
Guest Taxed Posted September 28, 2013 Report Posted September 28, 2013 They love Chris Christe in NJ. Can't say that about Bob McDonald after he was caught red handed with his hands in the "cookie jar" that even the conservative newspapers called on him to resign?? The guy loves Rolex watches if he does not have to pay for them?? Quote
Christian Posted September 28, 2013 Report Posted September 28, 2013 I am sure they love Governor Christie in New Jersey. A breath of fresh air in a fish factory. For myself, I was astonished that one of our Republican governors would behave as he has. However, I believe we made the correct choice on Obamacare. I am already taxed quite enough to furnish federal goodies to the oppressed. It will likely bring in some additional business for me to pay taxes on to help fund another federal program sure to be chock a block with fraud and abuse. Quote
Guest Taxed Posted September 29, 2013 Report Posted September 29, 2013 As a Democrat I like Gov. Chris Christie. He is different than your run of the mill Republican. If he runs in 2016, Democrats will have a serious challenger. Quote
