jlewis Posted June 13, 2013 Report Posted June 13, 2013 From ATX download/support site, just saw it while ago. Not mentioned on their blog, interesting? ATX™ Version 12.18 - June, 2013 PROGRAM UPDATES The following issue has been resolved in this version: l Opening returns: The issue prevented the application from opening returns and resulted in the following system error: "System.IO.InvalidDataException: Failed to repair e-file descriptor." Jack from Ohio Posted June 13, 2013 Report Posted June 13, 2013 I am installing 12.18 in the next 20 minutes. I will keep you informed of any issues. Quote
joanmcq Posted June 18, 2013 Report Posted June 18, 2013 Were there any issues? I took a couple of weeks of vacation, and didn't upgrade before I left since I was churning out returns as fast as possible (and had a couple of last minute audits drop into my lap), and now there's 12.18 as well. I'm still on 12.16, and it's been working fine. I haven't seen as many postings on this board or the other about the last two updates.. Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted June 18, 2013 Report Posted June 18, 2013 No issues on my home standalone, nor on the firm's domain network. So far, so good. Quote
mcb39 Posted June 19, 2013 Report Posted June 19, 2013 Ok, looks like an update is in order. Let us know. Since our systems are similar and I haven't budged from 12.15 yet because I am not having any current problems. Thanks Joan. Quote
Tmax Posted June 26, 2013 Report Posted June 26, 2013 Has anyone got any updates on 12.18? We are still running 12.15 on a network and the whole thing is freezing today. I've got an entire tax office not able to do tax returns!! Quote

taxit Posted June 26, 2013 Report Posted June 26, 2013 I updated from 12.15 to 12.18 on Friday the 21st. I have a server and 8 work stations , all running Win 7. I have had no problems so far. However, the program is still slow. No crashes and the printing does seem a bit faster. Quote
Tmax Posted June 26, 2013 Report Posted June 26, 2013 Thank you for the updates, we had to send everyone home, I'm about to work on this update. I'm very disappointed with everything we've had to go through. Random crashes, random deleted files, ATX forcing the server to crash. Never had so many problems. Quote
[email protected] Posted June 27, 2013 Report Posted June 27, 2013 We have been on with tech since 10:am having more trouble than ever....I can't afford to go home...need to get a corp return done today to reach a deadline for this specific client...hate it when I can not keep my word..because ATX can not keep theirs Quote
windmill Posted July 14, 2013 Report Posted July 14, 2013 OK, I have upgraded my computer and installed windows 7, I have a stand alone system. How is 12.18 working now. I am still at 12.15. I am assuming it is working fairly well as no postings since June 27th. I have a bunch of returns to do and everything is working well now, but..... Quote

windmill Posted July 15, 2013 Report Posted July 15, 2013 Thanks, I will tackle 12.18 tomorrow. Quote
mcb39 Posted July 16, 2013 Report Posted July 16, 2013 Thanks, I will tackle 12.18 tomorrow.I took the leap from 12.15 to 12.18 last week and it is working well. Quote
joanmcq Posted July 17, 2013 Report Posted July 17, 2013 I haven't had the need to print a return yet, but 12.18 is working well for me too. Quote
mcb39 Posted July 17, 2013 Report Posted July 17, 2013 I haven't had the need to print a return yet, but 12.18 is working well for me too. I printed a 1041, both Fed and WI.........no issues. I did have to do a top margin adjustment in order for labels to line up on the sheet; otherwise, I seem to have a longer program opening time, but not other issues at this time. Quote
joanmcq Posted July 20, 2013 Report Posted July 20, 2013 I'm still noticing a big memory draw, even without printing. Had to reboot the program a few times yesterday because I was over my limit and it was getting pretty slow to print. Not big returns, either, but I did have two open at once. Quote

JMovichEA Posted August 1, 2013 Report Posted August 1, 2013 Has anyone had an issue with 12.18 being slower than earlier versions? I'm still on 12.13 with few problems. Quote
Lee B Posted August 1, 2013 Report Posted August 1, 2013 I'm also still on 12.13 with no problems. I have seen some posts on the ATX Board about 12.18 being slower. Therefore, I'm going to stay on 12.13 as long I can. Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted August 1, 2013 Report Posted August 1, 2013 You are prolonging the inevitable. If you peruse the threads, you will find that staying with the old version is counterproductive. Any changes in 12.18 may change returns you have already created. You can lead a horse to water..... Quote

This time of year speed can't be as much an issue as it was pre - April 15. It is what it is. BTW, I never really noticed much of a problem with 12.18. It was as bad as the previous updates but not worse - including 12.13. Quote
JMovichEA Posted August 1, 2013 Report Posted August 1, 2013 Ok, you guys convinced me. Just updated. Locked up the computer the first time at the backup screen at shutdown. Subsequent opening and closing seems to be working. Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted August 1, 2013 Report Posted August 1, 2013 Ok, you guys convinced me. Just updated. Locked up the computer the first time at the backup screen at shutdown. Subsequent opening and closing seems to be working. In all the posts on all the threads this year, there are at least 50 things you need to check/change on your system. I have implemented all of them. and they do make a difference. If you aren't tech savvy enough to do it yourself, put someone on staff that is tech savvy, School him/her in tax preparation basics, and let him/her take care of your I.T. infrastructure. No matter what software you use, from this day forward, this will be a necessity if you intend to stay in the game. Quote
