Take this simply for what it says.

NEW problems since I updated.

CCH SFS developers bit the big one again!!!

ATX SFS developers show the ineptness once again.

We are screwed. Can't undo. Even if I do a total system remove and install (3 day process) the latest install file has 12.16 in it!

Thanks again CCH!!!

Do you have the original CD ATX sent last fall? Couldn't you do a total system removal, load the original CD and then run whichever update you desire?

I am posting this several places to warn everyone. Please excuse the redundancy.

When we click on print now, the program crashes. Loses all data in the return that is open. Tried this on 3 different workstations. On the phone with tech now. They are going to get an earful!!!

I have the CD. Just to clear and reinstall, then restore 3,100+ returns is a 3 day operation. Last time we did it in late Feb, we lost 25 returns total.

Tech support has suggested that the file from the website is best because the update process is very flawed if you start from the CD.

To do a safe new backup, 8 hours. Clean all workstations and the server of all traces of 2012, 2 hours. Install program again, update all forms, 8+ hours. Re-synch with e-file acks, at least 12 hours.

Thanks for the warning Jack! I had been looking for the update to fix some back up issues but I will not install it now!

Still on the phone. I will inform everyone what I find out.

Bill CCH for your blood pressure medicine!

Did they release 12.16 without adequate testing again??

No Sarcasm. I know you got selected as a beta tester so I guess the hard work begins now.

The two people I have spoken to do not know I am a future beta tester. But I am getting the same "start with all the little stuff" treatment I have had in the past. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

So what do you do now if there is no quick way to undo the damage?

What if you need to complete a return or do a 1040X today or tomorrow?

Can you export the client file and run it on a standalone?

I did not say it would be easy or quick. But you should be able to do it.

The tech people said they were not sure that even this process would solve the problem. You see my dilema... We did this process in February, and it was not a pretty sight. Lost total returns. I don't wish to spend three whole days with only a wish and dream that it will fix the problem.

What really chaps my backside is the programmers NOT building in a reversal plan. By now, with all the defective updates, you would think they would know better. More ignorant actions by the development people and CCH executives.

Jack you probably know more about computers than I do, but can you restore it from a backup set just prior to the installation of 12.16. I realize the restore process will take time, but at least you will be in the same position that you were in before this mishap.

Restore only brings back returns. Does not change the program. Backup is only for data.

I thought may be you also backup the program files on your network?

I thought may be you also backup the program files on your network?

Backing up the program files in a Windows based program does not give you the ability to restore. Windows has many different areas that have information about the program, none the least is the registry. Going back to old program files does not change registry entries. This is what the "undo" function of an update would do.

The programmers are either too uneducated, mis-informed or lazy to do such a thing.

High quality software writers provide the "revert to previous version" option with software updates.

When you do a Drake update does it store the update file somewhere or is it internal and deleted once the software is updated?

Does Drake have a download center like ATX where you can manually download the update files?

I don't know the technical aspects of how it does what it does.

But whenever you are working in Drake, there is a "Notifications..." window in the lower-left corner.

It shows "Update status:" and to the right it will say "Up to Date" in green.

When you first sign on, the status will show "Update Needed" in red if you aren't up to date.

It will also flash the red warning while you're working in Drake, which enables you to quickly exit, get the updates, and return to what you're doing.

With all updates, you must close Drake to get them, but they rarely take more than 30 seconds. Then you simply sign back on and go back to work.

Yes I saw that and the updates are really fast!

Let's hope we NEVER need an undo with Drake!
