gfizer Posted May 15, 2013 Report Posted May 15, 2013 There is no payment voucher that I can find. Anyone have any experience or suggestions with the best way to mail these checks and make sure they get credited to the proper accounts? Thanks, Gina Quote
Guest Taxed Posted May 15, 2013 Report Posted May 15, 2013 Never done a 990-PF but are there instructions to the form on irs.gov? Quote
gfizer Posted May 15, 2013 Author Report Posted May 15, 2013 Yes there are instructions but they only address making payments with a paper filed return, an extension, or via EFTPS. I usually do direct debit with the e-filed return but the client has requested that the payment be mailed this year to allow for some "float" time for the funds. The 990-EF info worksheet has the check box for making the payment "paper check by mail" but does not give any mailing instructions. Quote
RDennis Posted May 15, 2013 Report Posted May 15, 2013 I do only one 990-PF, and I have had the foundation make the payment via EFTPS the last couple of years. Before that, they always mailed in the payment with the return or with an extension. They never heard anything from the IRS about mailing the check in the past. Quote

The 990-EF info worksheet has the check box for making the payment "paper check by mail" but does not give any mailing instructions. So I'd use the instruction for mailing it with an extension. I know, not logical, exactly, but where would there be a problem? The extension form will be ignored, as the return will already be in the system, however the form will make it clear how to apply the check. PS Love your avatar ! Quote
gfizer Posted May 15, 2013 Author Report Posted May 15, 2013 Thanks, KC. It epitomized tax season for me this year. I toyed around with the idea of sending it with the extension but finally just decided to paper file the return. Quote
kcjenkins Posted May 15, 2013 Report Posted May 15, 2013 Sometimes that's the simplest choice, although the comfort of getting the ACK is always tempting. Quote
