TAXMAN Posted May 9, 2013 Report Posted May 9, 2013 Hey everybody esp those in Virginia. Interesting situation here. Couple got married Nov 2012 and seperated March 2013. Divorce pending and final in Sept 2013. Question comes to mind. Husband filed a simple MFS no deductions, no kids for 2012. Wife has yet to file. Anyone know if this marriage could be anulled thus allowing her to file as single or could it be looked as a sham marriage or should she bite the bullet and file MFS for 2012? My thought is MFS then amend to S if she could get it anulled. Wife claims she did not know all his problems when they got married. (sorry) Quote
Guest Taxed Posted May 9, 2013 Report Posted May 9, 2013 I would recommend MFS and NOT S for now. How much difference would it make if you amend to S after annulment? Is it worth it? Quote
JohnH Posted May 9, 2013 Report Posted May 9, 2013 Is it on extension? If so, you have until October to sort it all out and file correctly. I guess it might matter if there's a large refund in the balance, but other than that I'd opt for riding out the extension. Quote
TAXMAN Posted May 9, 2013 Author Report Posted May 9, 2013 It is on extension and the tax is not that much different except on the state. I guess we will wait for the attorney handeling the divorce will let me know as it has a sept date. Quote
Guest Taxed Posted May 9, 2013 Report Posted May 9, 2013 It takes 2 to tangle! In any divorce there is enough blame to go around! Quote
michaelmars Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 Speaking of divorce... My daughter wanted a Barbie doll and not knowing much I went to the toy store and asked for help. The salesman said we have Malibu Barbie for $22.95 with beach towel and surfboard. We have Hollywood Barbie with 2 designer outfits and a small poodle for $26.95 and we have sports Barbie with a tennis racquet, golf clubs and a bowling ball for $24.95. We also have divorced Barbie for $300.95. When I asked why so expensive he said divorced Barbie comes with Kens house, Kens car and Kens boat. 5 Quote

JohnH Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 Reminds me of the quote by Lewis Grizzard (funny guy all around), who had been married 4 or 5 times. He said: "Next time I start thinking about getting married, I'll just find a woman I hate and give her my house/" Quote
Guest Taxed Posted May 10, 2013 Report Posted May 10, 2013 Poor Ken that's what happens when you marry a Barbie! 4 Quote
