Terry D EA Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 I think I did this last year but can't clearly remember. I have a client that just showed up with a 1099B that has about 20 pages of short term and long term barter exchanges. Are we permitted to attached the broker's statement to the return and make reference to it with the e-file or does this have to be itemized out on form 8949? I sure would like to attach the statement as this would be one headache off my desk. Quote
Seanr7 Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 I list total, Short Covered non covered same with long and put "See Attachment" and send with the broker statement Quote
Terry D EA Posted April 5, 2013 Author Report Posted April 5, 2013 Never mind, I found it in the instructions for form 8949 page 2. Yes, you can see attached statement and attach the statement in .pdf to the e-file if your software permits it. I am using TaxSlayer Pro and it does permit it if anyone wanted to know. Quote
MsTabbyKats Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 Just to let you know; My personal return had about 50 pages (5 mutual funds...over 10 years)...and it just ran on and on...with one line summarizing at the end. Scanning and attaching wasn't going to happen........ I called IRS...and the rep I spoke to said to just use "that one line"...and if the IRS wanted to, they'd contact and ask for the backup. He said as long as "the numbers match, it should be fine". That's what I've been doing on every return that has "too many transactions"........ Quote
Janitor Bob Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 I did as MsTabbyKats stated above.....There is no way I am going to manually input or even scan 50 pages of transactions.....I just enter the total line that summarizes at the end. Quote
