grandmabee Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 foster child lives with taxpayer entire yr. placed by Indian tribal council for permanent placement. the tribe pays 600.00 a month to foster mother. do you think this would be a qualified foster child and the 600 would not count as the child provided that support for himself. Can she claim the foster child as a qualified child dependent. thanks Quote
WITAXLADY Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 sounds fine to me - greater than 6 months - whole year, placed by agency, payment not taxable income. great! good for them! Quote
kcjenkins Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 Yes, based on facts provided, child is a qualified dependent. Quote
jainen Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 >>placed by Indian tribal council<< Sounds good to me. It's been nine years since the law was changed to require an "authorized placement agency," but the IRS hasn't got around to updating the regs yet. Therefore your interpretation is as good as anyone else. Quote
