RitaB Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 I really would like 5 minutes with the people who perforate forms right smack in the middle of the form. Not between copies of the form, in the middle of the copy of the form. Other than that, I'm fine. Quote
Ray in Ohio Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 or the W2/1099 forms that are not perforated at all ......... you can own a successful and profitable business, but you are unable to use perforated paper for the tax forms??? **&%^$(*&%$ cheap skate!! Tight Wad!!!!!! GGGRRRRRR!!!!!!! (otherwise I am totally ok with everything in life too) Quote
RitaB Posted April 4, 2013 Author Report Posted April 4, 2013 And the glue balls on Form SSA-1099. Grrr. And the W-2's put out by my great county government with the carbon paper in there, and the numbers are always on top of a line. But, other than that... 2 Quote
mcb39 Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 I go along with the non-perforated forms. Even I have perforated Uni-forms for W2 and 1099. Even our state unemployment forms are not perforated. I keep a pair of scissors handy, but it is annoying. 1 Quote
Terry D EA Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 Paper cutter works just fine. I guess we all have to deal with whatever comes our way with this stuff. 1 Quote
Ray in Ohio Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 oh I like the glue balls on the SSA. They're quite chewy once you get used to the taste. (and much cheaper than gum) 5 Quote
JJStephens Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 I heard somewhere the glue balls cause you to lose your memory . . . but I forget where I heard that 6 Quote
grandmabee Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 if you are e-filing why do you need to separate them? Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 The people that designed and chose the SSA-1099 format size and those stupid "tear this side off first" type configurations. 3 Quote
RitaB Posted April 4, 2013 Author Report Posted April 4, 2013 if you are e-filing why do you need to separate them? I keep the federal copy for my files. And, even if I didn't, these forms practically fall apart at that perforation. Quote
jklcpa Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 I keep copies of all W-2s and 1099s with withholding. I thought this was required to keep these even if efiling. Glue balls, good one Rita! 1 Quote
grandmabee Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 I keep copies of everything on the return. but I don't keep any originals Quote
jklcpa Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 I keep copies of everything on the return. but I don't keep any originals I do too, unless the client has something like 2 inches of contribution receipts with a nice summary already done for me. In cases like that, I'd keep the summary. But specifically with e-filing, aren't we required to keep copies of any documents that have withholding, the W-2s and 1099s? If the W-2s or 1099s are multi-part forms, yes, I keep one of the originals. Quote
grandmabee Posted April 5, 2013 Report Posted April 5, 2013 GUESS I better check on that. I always just kept copy Quote
mcb39 Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 I keep originals of anything with withholding and copies of anything that might matter later. Quote
Crackerjack Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 If my clients have not removed the glueballs from their 1099-SSA before presenting it to me, I peel them off while I am talking to them. If they talk back, I remove the perforated edges while listening to them. This is a detail-oriented business, LOL. 2 Quote
RitaB Posted April 6, 2013 Author Report Posted April 6, 2013 I know! When they insist on yakking: ("This is your busy time, huh?"), I start opening envelopes, throwing them away, rolling up glue balls, handing back the donation receipt, even though they can't itemize: "You need to decide what your three bags of clothes and microwave were worth, all microwaves are not created equal..."Oh, and here's your electric bill. Looks like it was due Thursday. 4 Quote
SFA Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 Have you ever opened envelopes with old uncashed checks in them? 3 Quote
Margaret CPA in OH Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 Yes! And overdue bills, and letters and tax department notices - I could go on. I just don't understand why people don't open their own mail. 2 Quote
mcb39 Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 Have you ever opened envelopes with old uncashed checks in them? I have two clients each year (the same two) who bring in unopened and uncashed dividend checks. Quote
joanmcq Posted April 6, 2013 Report Posted April 6, 2013 Yup, I've had those too. Sometimes the checks are already stale. Quote
