Christian Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 A retired client operates a sideline timber appraisal business. He and his wife pay medicare insurance premiums, long term care premiums, and medicare supplemental premiums in their names.Recently medicare premiums were allowed to be deducted as self employment health insurance premiums. I note the ATX worksheet also indicates ltc premiums can be added to the medicare premiums for the deduction. Are all these insurance premiums allowable as a deduction on Form 1040 line 29. His has no separate business name using instead his own. Quote
SCL Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 it's good to see your response (minimal or otherwise) to a tax question...instead of recent, over weighted, and subjective responses as a joker, censor, or right wing apologist. over many years, your valued tax opinions have helped me form and confirm my own tax opinions/decisions...thank you. kcjenkins Posted March 12, 2013 Report Posted March 12, 2013 Sounds that way because it is. But it's OK Bart, I have reached a point in my life where I do and say what I believe, and don't get bothered by some one disagreeing with me. I have posted more political points than usual, this year, because several things going on today really do disturb me. No one has to agree with me on everything, to hold my respect. As long as they respect my rights, I will be fine. As for the jokes, I'm sure most of you understand why I've focused on them more this year. The fact that I needed them is all the justification I think I needed. They were all labeled, after all. Quote
Christian Posted March 12, 2013 Author Report Posted March 12, 2013 The service rep on the toll free tax pro line held that all of the health costs except the medicare insurance premium paid through the wife's social security qualified. I see her point as all the other premiums are in fact paid by him. Quote
SCL Posted March 13, 2013 Report Posted March 13, 2013 Are you serious? Why does this sound so mean? you claim bart simpson as a totem/idol...do you even know what 'serious/mean' means? i was encouraging kc to just stick to "the (tax) facts, ma'am"...everything else is a narcissistic distraction. after all, this is a tax board. thank you christain for the follow up. it pretty much confirms kc's "yes"...a tax answer/confirmation i really appreciate.
