Sherri Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 I'm trying to e-file a return and it won't let me, says " Social Security value cannot include any characters except numbers and cannot be negative when e filing" There are no "characters" and no negative numbers. Has anyone else had this problem? Oh, and I updated before I started. Thanks, Sherri  Quote
Sherri Posted January 29, 2008 Author Report Posted January 29, 2008 oops Should have said, the info was on a W-2 Quote
SCL Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 if i remember correctly about a similar question from prior year - the problem is a phantom space or even an accidental (.) in the field. delete w-2 and reenter. Quote
kcjenkins Posted January 29, 2008 Report Posted January 29, 2008 Most likely reason is that you accidentally typed a 'space' before the first number. Your eyes don't 'see' that tiny space, but the computer does. Or you could even have a space after the number. Try deleting the number, 'restore' the space, then retype the number. It often works. Thanks, was't a space, just didn't put a zero in box 3 and 4. Kinda dumb that it picks random W-2's. One it needs zero's the next it does'nt. Quote
