gfizer Posted February 19, 2013 Report Posted February 19, 2013 I have a young couple who moved from Virginia to Kentucky in May of 2012. I have completed the Federal and Kentucky PY returns with no probem but I cannot get the Virginia Form 760PY to calculate. I completed the Schedule of Income and the software populates the first page of the form with the correct numbers to arrive at Virginia Adusted Gross Income but the 2nd page of the return shows zeroes. The worksheets for the prorated standard deduction and exemption are properly calculated but the figures aren't flowing from the worksheets to the return itself. What am I doing wrong? Quote
Hahn1040 Posted February 19, 2013 Report Posted February 19, 2013 What is their Virginia AGI? The filing threshold is fairly high: MFJ $23,900 possibly they are not required to file. Of course, if they had tax withhled, file part year to get their withholding back. Quote
gfizer Posted February 19, 2013 Author Report Posted February 19, 2013 Their VA AGI is $14,869 which I know is below the the filing threshold but they had in excess of $500 withheld that needs to be refunded. Quote
Hahn1040 Posted February 19, 2013 Report Posted February 19, 2013 Indeed they want to file the return should show no tax and the full withholding for the refund amount. If the withholding is not showing on the VA- check your input on the W-2 to make sure you have VA for the state. Quote
gfizer Posted February 19, 2013 Author Report Posted February 19, 2013 The withholding is showing but lines 13 thru 18 are blank. The worksheets show the figures for prorated standard deduction and exemption but the figures from the worksheets aren't flowing to the return. I tried manually overriding the zeroes on the form itself to show the correct figures, but the efile rejects. Quote
grmy2h Posted February 19, 2013 Report Posted February 19, 2013 I just went in and did a "dummy" part year. It seems when the filing threshold is not met, it doesn't fill in line 13-18. When I put in amounts just above the threshold it filled in those lines. I know it also acts that way on a resident form if it is below. Can't say for sure this is your circumstance, but feel like maybe it is. Quote
Gail in Virginia Posted February 19, 2013 Report Posted February 19, 2013 As long as it is showing the proper refund and withholding, you are fine. The other lines are supposed to be blank if the income is below the filing threshold, because the math might actually work our to a small taxable income and still be below the threshold, so ir just leaves that part blank. gfizer Posted February 19, 2013 Author Report Posted February 19, 2013 Thanks everyone! I will try submitting it with the zeroes and only the withholding/refund showing on page 2 and see if that works. Keep your fingers crossed...... Quote
TAXMAN Posted February 20, 2013 Report Posted February 20, 2013 As Gail said if VA agi is below the magic # then the rest of the lines will not populate as VA requested. Quote
