Dave T Posted February 16, 2013 Report Posted February 16, 2013 Is anyone having difficulty with e-file rejects on returns with the 8863 Fducation Credits attached? I Updated to 12.8 lst night and then submitted a return with the credit attached only to have it rejected. Here is the scenario: -Two undergrad students, he with 7400 in expenses and she with 1943. - Total on line 30 of each $ 2500 and 1943 resepectively. - Total on line 1 of the 8863 then is $ 4453 Reject error says total on line 1 can't exceed total(s) on line 30, yet is doesn't, it's the same amount. This is frustrating Thanks for any insights. - Dave T Quote
Dave T Posted February 16, 2013 Author Report Posted February 16, 2013 Correction on previous post amount on line 1 is 4443 not 4453 as I mistakenly typed Thanks Quote
angolatax Posted February 17, 2013 Report Posted February 17, 2013 I am also having issues with this same problem. If I efile just one person on form 8863 it works. If I file two people it doesnt work. Obvious problem with code as I have deleted and re-entered several times using various combinations. Quote
Dave T Posted February 17, 2013 Author Report Posted February 17, 2013 Yes - I'm wondering if this is part of the issue. If there is more than one credit on the return an error message occurs. I've submitted a return with only one individual on it and it went through fine. Anyone else experienced this? Thanks - Dave T Quote
Janitor Bob Posted February 18, 2013 Report Posted February 18, 2013 Watch the form CLOSELY....as many have mentioned...I have had no problems when only one student....but on two different occasions I have had 8863s with two students.....I close the return and upon re-opening, ATX has added an additional column (in between parents and students) and moved some (but not all) of the info from the student to the new column.....at the top of the new column is the word "INVALID". On one occasion, I swear....everything was fine when I created and transmitted the e-file, but it was rejected by Agency with errors related to the 8863...I went and looked and there was the new column. Once I re-entered the info back into the proper student column and deleted the information from the new column, the new "INVALID" column disappeared and I was able to e-file and get acceptance. what.the.hell Quote
Dave T Posted February 18, 2013 Author Report Posted February 18, 2013 Aside from praying for wisdom ( and patience ), not sure what changed, but the return I submitted with two Ed. Credits that rejected twice, posted this morning. I hadn't made any changes to the return and there was no program update when I logged in this morning so I'm just thankful that it finally accepted. Hopefully this will continue as I have another retrun with two AOC credits to submit. Thanks for the responses. Quote
