Lee B Posted February 16, 2013 Report Posted February 16, 2013 According a recent post in the ATXblog by Kimmie, they have identified what is making the program crash when trying to open a return since the 12.8 update. They have developed and tested the fix and it is now in Quality Control for stability testing and packaging. See the thread titled "Same Problem Again", find Kimmie's post and follow the link. It was unclear to me whether this fix was intended for network installs only or both standalone & network installs ??? KImmie has now posted that the update, scheduled for 5:00PM EST is for both standalone & networked installs. There is a scary last line. "Tech support will not be able to assist with the opening of any returns that have crashed since the 12.8 update" ! Quote
RDennis Posted February 16, 2013 Report Posted February 16, 2013 Hopefully for standalone installs as well. I could open returns after the 12.8 update (after following the instructions at ATX answer 14069). However, after entering the data and saving, I cannot reopen those returns. Quote
jklcpa Posted February 16, 2013 Report Posted February 16, 2013 Well, I could open returns last night and today I can't. I have standalone installation here. Quote
FedupCPA Posted February 16, 2013 Report Posted February 16, 2013 At this point, I think we can safely say that "Quality Control" is a misnomer with CCH. I keep envisioning the old airline commercial with gorillas handling the baggage...I think they have those same gorillas programming the product and performing quality control. Thank goodness my clients come to me for me, and I have a great relationship with them so they have been very understanding during this time of chaos; however, they still have expectations of me to deliver their return timely and every day I have doubts as to whether I can do that using ATX. Quote
txsoftware1 Posted February 16, 2013 Report Posted February 16, 2013 My clients also come to me "for me" and thank God are willing to hang with me, for now... good luck on the new update. What a hoot this is. They have no idea what they have done.... Quote
joanmcq Posted February 16, 2013 Report Posted February 16, 2013 none of my clients know about the software issues, since I don't prepare in front of them. I'm actually ahead this year with clients whose docs are all in, and the number of returns I've done for the first two weeks of February. Quote
Lee B Posted February 16, 2013 Author Report Posted February 16, 2013 About a dozen posters on the ATX board are reporting that they are able to open various different types of returns that they weren't able to open since the 12.8 update. Quote
jklcpa Posted February 16, 2013 Report Posted February 16, 2013 Well I have one that I was able to open before and now I can't. Quote
Lynn EA USTCP in Louisiana Posted February 16, 2013 Report Posted February 16, 2013 I downloaded the 12.9 update rebooted my computer and am unable to get beyond the ATX splash screen. Big sigh...........Hard shut down of ATX then restart of the computer. After that the program opened ...... finally ..... after sitting on the splash screen for a LONG TIME. Quote
norcalea Posted February 16, 2013 Report Posted February 16, 2013 Thankfully all of my corrupted returns are back with 12.9. Such a relief. Quote
cpabsd Posted February 16, 2013 Report Posted February 16, 2013 12.8 nightmare, 12.9 installed finally. Thank you DJ ATX tech support guy. My serious problems are solved. Quote
Eli Posted February 17, 2013 Report Posted February 17, 2013 I updated this morning from within the program, but there was no 12.9 update. It just updated 7 forms. Eli Quote
mcb39 Posted February 17, 2013 Report Posted February 17, 2013 Eli, the update this time is not included in the program download. You HAVE to go to the website to download it. 1 Quote
Eli Posted February 17, 2013 Report Posted February 17, 2013 Thank you, Marilyn Hope all is going well with you. Eli 1 Quote
joanmcq Posted February 17, 2013 Report Posted February 17, 2013 Downloading any of the program updates isn't recommended from within the program. The only time I started having issues was when I mistakenly did that. I'm updating forms from in the program, but not program updates. Be sure ATX is shut down before you update too. And reboot your computer after installing even if it doesn't prompt you too. Quote
Bart Posted February 18, 2013 Report Posted February 18, 2013 I am so glad we have you, Joan. You give a great summary of what is posted on the other board and that way I never have to go there. Quote
Eli Posted February 18, 2013 Report Posted February 18, 2013 I've done all my updates except 12.9 from within the program. I am grateful I have not had any of the major issues others have had. I pray this continues to be the case (that i have no major problems). Eli Quote
mcb39 Posted February 18, 2013 Report Posted February 18, 2013 Well, I might have known it was too good to last. Worked fine all day yesterday except for the drop-down boxes so I didn't install 12.9. I prepared and filed several returns today without issue. SO........tonight I get a reject and cannot get into the return without the program crashing to find out the reason for the reject. I installed 12.9 and rebooted. Got into the return and the reject was because the program had added a dependent that hadn't been on this return for a couple of years; since he finished School. Fortunately, I had filed the son this morning or I would really have a mess. Do we now have to check every return to see if there are some dependents hanging around down there and physically remove them. It was getting too handy to check the box to not take the dependent in certain years. Quote
Lee B Posted February 18, 2013 Author Report Posted February 18, 2013 There are some posts on the ATX board that say that they had to do exactly that, remove these extra dependents in order to correct the number of dependents being claimed. Quote
B. Jani Posted February 18, 2013 Report Posted February 18, 2013 Also remove all the past 1099, old w-2 etc which is not good for this year. Anything do not belong to this year rolledover from last year, please check and remove, and you really have very few problems with efile. Quote
TaxMan60601 Posted February 18, 2013 Report Posted February 18, 2013 Well, I begin to think that at the bottom of all this is the Service again - it seems like they want us checking everything on the return personally and manually! I am downloading and installing updates manually since 12.5 - no troubles so far . 1 Quote
