rfassett Posted February 1, 2013 Report Posted February 1, 2013 Can anyone tell me how I can get the pdf from my desktop to my IPAD? I need a little light reading for the wee hours. And it may as well be productive reading. Thanks! Quote
Kea Posted February 1, 2013 Report Posted February 1, 2013 You can do it through iTunes and syncing. Don't remember the specifics, but I copied several .PDFs to my iPod touch last summer. Easier way is to e-mail it to yourself and then save the attachment. Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted February 1, 2013 Report Posted February 1, 2013 E-mail Bluetooth This is the reason I do not own an I-pad. I will stick with my laptop. Quote
rfassett Posted February 1, 2013 Author Report Posted February 1, 2013 What would we do without each other? Thanks Kea! The thought never occurred to me to email it to myself. I did that and now the guide has taken up residence in ibooks on my IPAD. I am excited! Quote
rfassett Posted February 1, 2013 Author Report Posted February 1, 2013 Good plan Jack. I got my IPAD 20 months ago and I use it ALL the time. Where I go, it goes. So you are wise, stick to your laptop. But I do LOVE my IPAD. Can not imagine life without it now. Quote
JohnH Posted February 1, 2013 Report Posted February 1, 2013 I agree - I can't imagine doing business without an iPad and iPhone either. They are becoming essentials rather than accessories. Laptops are great for some tasks, but dinosaurs for others. BTW, saving pdf's to iBooks is fine, but I prefer using PDF Reader Pro to manage pdf's It is worth the cost just to get the search capabilities. And now PDF Expert seems to be an even better option - just need to find out if it;'s worth $9..99 Quote
Kea Posted February 2, 2013 Report Posted February 2, 2013 In a similar vein, do you know of any good .pdf "printers"? I have a free one (doPDF) on my PC and the default one on the Mac. I looked for one for my iPhone (I upgraded from the iPod in December), but can't find any free ones. I don't really mind paying for an app, but I want to make sure it's a good one first. Thanks Quote
JohnH Posted February 2, 2013 Report Posted February 2, 2013 "PDF Printer for iPhone" (by Dar-soft) seems to have the best reviews. Cost is about $3. I don't have any experience with it but I think I'm going to try it. Usually I just take a picture of the document with my camera and text or email it to myself, but I can see how a good printer might come in handy at times. BTW, you do know how to use the camera to take a picture of a web page (or whatever is on the sceeen at the moment) don't you? Just hold down the power key and press the home button. Now that I think of it, that feature may pretty much obviate the need to have a PDF printer. Quote
Eric Posted February 2, 2013 Report Posted February 2, 2013 I use Google Drive to store tons of documents and files. The folder on my computer automatically syncs, and when I'm done working with those files at work, they're available on all of my android devices and my home office computer, all up to date. It can be a handy way to get files (especially larger ones that might be too big to email) from one computer to another if they're not on the network, or with other people who need access to the same documents. DropBox is the other popular service that does pretty much the same thing. Both have apps for Android and iOS devices. The advantage of Google Drive is when you're working with text/spreadsheet documents in a collaborative way with other people. You can both edit the same document at the same time, and see all of the edits taking place live. The web based document editors aren't nearly as full featured as MS Office, but it works great for basic document editing. If you're paranoid about storing your data up on the "cloud", well, Idunno. Most of my files aren't sensitive enough for me to care about Google/DropBox having access to my sensitive data. I'm sure there are other services out there that support encryption. Quote
joanmcq Posted February 3, 2013 Report Posted February 3, 2013 I love, love, love my iPad. It goes everywhere with me, whereas I hate lugging my laptop around. I'll have to save the user guide to mine; the iPad is like having another monitor, but it takes up less space. I hadn't thought of that, and I've had way too many PDFs open at once to easily use them. Quote
