RitaB Posted January 29, 2013 Report Posted January 29, 2013 I was able to update by going to ATX, saving to desktop, etc. Got that error message "CCH encountered a problem... needs to close" when trying to open the program. You know the one. Anyway, I have done this twice, and it worked: I view the error message, don't send the report, close that box. Then, when I try to open, it opens. And then I spend three times longer working on a return and ten times longer printing it. Hope this helps someone. 1 Quote

Then, when I try to open, it opens. Alrighty, then, the third time it happened my life changing technique did not work. Wow, I'm glad I'm a pretty laid back person, cause $%^& and $%^& and #$%^&*. RitaB Posted January 29, 2013 Author Report Posted January 29, 2013 I repented, and the fourth time was the &^*%^^$ charm. This is like when gas goes down 3 cents, and we celebrate. Nevermind that it's still twice what it should be. 1 Quote
ILLMAS Posted January 29, 2013 Report Posted January 29, 2013 Hello Rita, try to completely shut down your PC and restart it, sometimes files remain opened in the background even though you have closed the program. Quote
RitaB Posted January 29, 2013 Author Report Posted January 29, 2013 Hello Rita, try to completely shut down your PC and restart it, sometimes files remain opened in the background even dough you have closed the program. Yes, thanks, I am doing that. Cause I am also getting the message, and it's closing down, in the middle of returns when my computer sits idle while I talk to Chatty Cathy and friends. Oh, wait, I mean while my sweet clients and I catch up. So, I restart the whole kit and kaboodle. I'm getting a candy bar now. Maybe that will help. 1 Quote
Margaret CPA in OH Posted January 29, 2013 Report Posted January 29, 2013 Candy bars always help. Keep a good supply for the season. A nice dry red wine is especially helpful after around 7pm. 2 Quote
jklcpa Posted January 29, 2013 Report Posted January 29, 2013 I'm dead in the water with this program. Opens, network update box pops up, program shuts down. ERRRRRR! 1 Quote
RitaB Posted January 29, 2013 Author Report Posted January 29, 2013 I know, and it's not us. I don't care how inexpensive a program is perceived to be (and it ain't cheap to this gal), boxes oughta stay checked. I would so like to smoke right now. And I don't smoke. While I eat my candy bar, I am going to watch Kid President's pep talk that I posted last night. Not cool, ATX. 2 Quote
michaelmars Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 Try booting your computer, i use steel tip boots! 2 Quote
Lion EA Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 My husband buys me lots of dark chocolate for tax season, Costco sized packages. 3 Quote
kcjenkins Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 Now that is a great husband!!!!! 2 Quote
joanmcq Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 Oooooh, chocolate.... I'm a sucker for fine dark chocolate.... 2 Quote
Lion EA Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 One year I didn't want him to get the giant Costco sized bag (I'd eat it all at once!), so he repackaged it for me in little snack sized zip bags! He is a sweetie. Except when he walks into my home office, sits down, and talks away, while I'm trying to research or something. But, the chocolate makes up for most of that... 1 Quote
mcb39 Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 My husband buys me lots of dark chocolate for tax season, Costco sized packages. I told mine that if he would just keep the dishes washed, it would be a big help. However, he just keeps going to the bakery. He is the one with the sweet tooth and I have no self control when it comes to lemon filled doughnuts. I also understand what you mean about hubby stopping into the office, taking a chair and wanting to visit. The other thing is "I am going to ''''''''''; do you want to come along?" because I know that if he asks me to come along that means that he needs my help and wants me to. Or, he thinks he is getting me out of the office for a while. You have to love them. Quote
Lion EA Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 Wish I could train him! But, I do love him. And, now that he's retired, I send him to the bank, to deliver returns to my elderly clients (so he can smooze them while I work on the next client), to Staples, whatever. Quote
jklcpa Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 lol yesterday I received a doughnut too, on a plate, handed in to me while husband stayed hidden on the other side of the doorway. I guess he was trying to stay out of the line of fire. hahaha 1 Quote
Catherine Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 I have a serious weakness for dark chocolate myself -- but what fuels tax season for me is Skittles. They don't melt on my fingers, drop tiny, tasty crumbs in my keyboard, and one or two get me going for another stretch. I save the chocolate for when I can pay attention to it. Quote
Kea Posted January 30, 2013 Report Posted January 30, 2013 I just discovered turtle flavored Chex Mix. Maybe a little sticky, but I can keep napkins handy. Quote
Janitor Bob Posted January 31, 2013 Report Posted January 31, 2013 caffeine...lots and lots of caffeine. This time of year, I work 8 hours as import/export shipping manager, accountant at a local manufacturing company....then go home to do taxes until the wee hours....next day, rinse, repeat. Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted January 31, 2013 Report Posted January 31, 2013 caffeine...lots and lots of caffeine. This time of year, I work 8 hours as import/export shipping manager, accountant at a local manufacturing company....then go home to do taxes until the wee hours....next day, rinse, repeat. Sounds like my life, only my daytime job is a tax preparer/I.T. manager at a tax firm. Am I crazy to do 12-16 hours of tax stuff 6 days a week? 1 Quote
kcjenkins Posted January 31, 2013 Report Posted January 31, 2013 Dark Chocolate Moose Munch has gotten me through many a late [really late] night session. Quote
