I have serious gripes about ATX Fixed Asset Manager v12. We purchased this late last year but all the presentations we were given were based on v11 which appeared feature rich for the price. We were told that v12 had been rewritten from scratch but with LESS features. I don't get that. We were also promised that a whole list of features would arrive "early January 2013" to quote the spec sheet we received. Included in these features most important to us was the ability to import from Excel as we have been adding assets to an excel sheet throughout the year. We did notice an update (from 12.1 to 12.2) but have no idea what it did.

Upon further correspondence with ATX/CCH support we have come to find out that the excel import function will significantly be pushed back because of other "major issues" in the software. Meanwhile as tax time approaches we have no other choice but to manually key in all the 2012 assets. Unacceptable. Especially since this was the single feature we were looking for in an affordable package.

I think this is all a result of being purchased by CCH. I assume that CCH is pushing down software requirements, hence the re-write, and since it is a small operation they don't care about the end result because they really just want to convert users of ATX which is a pretty affordable package to CCH which is very expensive.

I guess software, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. I have been using the Fixed Asset Manager and have been thinking I needed to post a positive comment amongst all the ATX bashing that has been going on this year. I really do like all of the improvements. I have been using FAM for quite some time and I really, really do like the 2012 version. i guess because I have been using it for so long, I do not have the issue to which you speak. But I am having to add about 50 assets right now by hand and I am thoroughly impressed. The add is quick, prior period depreciation is calculated and the overall feel of the program is far and away better than the previous version.
