Doug, in setting up an employer for the payroll module, there is no place to put the employer's SSN. I have 2 or 3 clients that I prepare 1099s for that do not want an EIN and do not want to apply for one. They want to use their social security number even though I advised them that they should have an EIN. Could it be set up to accept a SSN?

Gene, the IRS requires an EIN for any business that has employees and pays wages. If you want to use ss# of the client on the 1099-Misc use one of those online 1099 filing outfits. I believe they charge like $3.50 per 1099.
