NECPA in NEBRASKA Posted January 17, 2013 Report Posted January 17, 2013 When I try to create an efile in the 2011 program, I get the error that the taxpayer signature date must be in the current processing year. Does anyone know if that means that the return may not be filed as MEF or is it another program error? Thanks, Quote
NECPA in NEBRASKA Posted January 17, 2013 Author Report Posted January 17, 2013 I just found that I can only efile a 2011 business return until 1/22. Quote
mcb39 Posted January 18, 2013 Report Posted January 18, 2013 You can file a 2011 return, but you have to have the signature date current, which is 2013. Quote
NECPA in NEBRASKA Posted January 18, 2013 Author Report Posted January 18, 2013 That is the date I used that is causing the error. I hope it's not an error, because I don't want to have to paper file. Quote
NECPA in NEBRASKA Posted January 22, 2013 Author Report Posted January 22, 2013 I'm asking this again, because I don't have much hope that ATX will answer my emailed question very quickly. Has anyone been able to successfully efile a 2011 return? I thought that today was the day to begin efiling them again. I am getting the same error message, that "the taxpayer signature date must be the same as the current processing year". I can't change the year to 2012, because the 8879 is signed today. Thanks. taxtrio Posted January 22, 2013 Report Posted January 22, 2013 Only prior year BUSINESS returns can be efiled with MEF efile. Only 2012 Personal returns can be efiled now... or will be Jan 30th... no prior year personal returns to my knowledge. Taxtrio Quote
NECPA in NEBRASKA Posted January 22, 2013 Author Report Posted January 22, 2013 You may efile 1040's for two prior years now. Quote
David Posted January 22, 2013 Report Posted January 22, 2013 Yes, that is my understanding as well that we can e-file 2011 tax returns. I am getting the same error message. How do we get around the 2013 date when the client has just signed the 8879 in 2013? Quote
NECPA in NEBRASKA Posted January 22, 2013 Author Report Posted January 22, 2013 I was just told on the other website that the IRS has now changed the opening date for all efiles to 1/3012. I haven't seen that myself. The last update that I saw said that it would be today. Now I'm getting worried that they won't be ready for anything on 1/30. 1 Quote
KEYWEST_RICKS Posted February 1, 2013 Report Posted February 1, 2013 has anyone had luck on this yet. seems like you can't create the file with a 2012 sign date and it is rejected with a 2013 anyone have luck on this yet. still have two 2011 that need to efile Quote
Lynn EA USTCP in Louisiana Posted February 1, 2013 Report Posted February 1, 2013 Just yesterday I was able to e-file 3 2011 federal tax returns, no issues, all 3 have been accepted. However I continue to get rejects on the accompanying 3 state 2011 e-file returns, LA and AZ. LA tells me they are set up to accept e-filed 2011 returns but no answer from either AZ or from ATX. lynn Quote

NECPA in NEBRASKA Posted February 1, 2013 Author Report Posted February 1, 2013 The 2011 that I sent was rejected yesterday, but today it was accepted with a 2013 signature date. Quote
TAXMAN Posted February 4, 2013 Report Posted February 4, 2013 Can we efile a fiscal year for a 1041 that began in 2011 and ended in 2012? I keep getting a signature date must equal the processing year. Any help? Quote

I have two 2011 returns to file and if I put in an 8879 sign date in 2013 ATX will not create the efile. If I put in a 2012 sign date the return is rejected by agency. Quote
jklcpa Posted February 6, 2013 Report Posted February 6, 2013 I have one last June fiscal year corp on extension that I need to file a 2011 return for. This was never an issue in past years. Why would our 2011 program be affected now? Quote
NECPA in NEBRASKA Posted February 6, 2013 Author Report Posted February 6, 2013 Try updating the program. As soon as they opened e-file for prior MEF returns, it allowed me to created the efile and it was accepted with a 2013 signature date. Quote
