wendybooth Posted January 17, 2013 Report Posted January 17, 2013 Anyone having trouble running 2012 ATX with window 8? I can't get any program updates to run. Quote
ILLMAS Posted January 17, 2013 Report Posted January 17, 2013 Uninstall ATX2012 first, reinstall it then try the updates. This worked for me on Win 7, you won't lose any clients you have already rolled over. Quote
wendybooth Posted January 17, 2013 Author Report Posted January 17, 2013 Thanks I will try that now. Quote
Guest Taxed Posted January 17, 2013 Report Posted January 17, 2013 Wendy, my Windows 8 upgrade is still in its shrink wrap. I am not going to risk unstable operating system this tax season. I am very happy with my windows XP pro and will keep it that way until the software forces me. I had a very bad experience 3 years back when I listened to Microsoft and went to Vista. What a nighmare that was in the middle of tax season. 1 Quote
wendybooth Posted January 17, 2013 Author Report Posted January 17, 2013 Thanks but I purchased a new computer and Windows 8 came installed on it. Trying to get all the programs installed and running is a pain. Quote

Computer salespeople will tell you that the only option on a new computer is Windows 8. This is totally incorrect. Sticking with Windows 7 which has become a very stable operating system is an option. Quote
Eric Posted January 17, 2013 Report Posted January 17, 2013 Windows 8 is quite stable, but the UI (in my opinion) is just awful for desktop computing. At this point, it's hard to tell if you're having trouble installing/running your software because of Windows 8, or because of the ATX software glitches... or maybe a combination of both. Assuming you get the software issues out of the way, you'll still have to deal with all of the windows 8 interface changes. If I had to get work done on a desktop computer running Windows 8, I'd buy something like this: http://www.stardock.com/products/start8/ $5 is a small price to pay to keep your sanity. Quote
