kcjenkins Posted October 30, 2012 Report Posted October 30, 2012 : A cabbie picked up a fare in Bowie, Md., and took him to a business area of town. Once arrived at the destination, the passenger demanded money in an apparent robbery attempt, and "struck the driver in the head and then threw some kind of liquid on him," said Bowie Police Chief Chuck Nesky. Not wanting to see what would happen next, the driver dove out of the taxi. The liquid was flammable: the passenger apparently ignited it just as the driver escaped with minor burns. The robber, however, did not escape: firefighters found his charred body in the back of the cab. (RC/Washington Post) ...Sometimes it really pays to think things through before you start. 1 Quote
Catherine Posted October 30, 2012 Report Posted October 30, 2012 At least in this case the driver can't be charged with harming his attacker! Quote
kcjenkins Posted October 30, 2012 Author Report Posted October 30, 2012 Hey, Cat, how did you make it through Sandy? Still got power? Quote
jainen Posted October 30, 2012 Report Posted October 30, 2012 >>the driver can't be charged with harming his attacker<< Right--the only witness can't testify, so he gets away with it! And what a great insurance scam! Quote
Catherine Posted November 1, 2012 Report Posted November 1, 2012 Hey, Cat, how did you make it through Sandy? Still got power? We lost power for a few hours, then had several more short interruptions (including one yesterday, just long enough to disrupt all the digital clocks in the house). Lots of small branches down, lots of leaves. I went out to clear leaves from around a storm drain at one point and there were gusts that I definitely had to brace myself to stand against. We were very lucky. Then last evening (after just showers all day) there was a very strong thunderstorm that went overhead while we were scoring targets after our pistol match. Once we were done, though, the sky was clear and the moon and stars were out. We still had clouds, some gusts, and occasional drizzle and showers today as well. Thanks for asking! Catherine Quote
Kea Posted November 1, 2012 Report Posted November 1, 2012 I'm glad it wasn't any worse. Hope it wasn't too cold while the power was out. 1 Quote
kcjenkins Posted November 1, 2012 Author Report Posted November 1, 2012 Glad to hear it. I was worried about you. 1 Quote
Catherine Posted November 1, 2012 Report Posted November 1, 2012 Thank you for the kind words and concern! Usually with a hurricane it's not cold (I know; tell that to West Virginia) - it stayed in the 50's and 60's the whole time. A friend who still has no power (or at least didn't yesterday) reported that her pet lizard is sitting under his heat lamp, waiting for it to come on. It's not cold enough to harm the creature -- but that tale is both funny and a little pathetic. Quote
Lion EA Posted November 15, 2012 Report Posted November 15, 2012 It snowed in CT, so definitely below 32 degrees last week. Quote
jainen Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 >>It snowed in CT, so definitely below 32 degrees last week.<< Counting last night, the old rain gauge reports almost half an inch since October. At last I can ease off watering (except, of course, the annuals I just planted). Now come the weeds! Quote
