Margaret CPA in OH Posted May 16, 2012 Report Posted May 16, 2012 A shred of humanity does exist within the service! I wonder when this thinking, caring person will be fired... Quote
joanmcq Posted May 16, 2012 Report Posted May 16, 2012 Or that auditor has been there, done that! Quote
barosser Posted May 17, 2012 Report Posted May 17, 2012 Lately the IRS seems to love the personal "voice" on penalties. I have had little luck gettingthem removed but had a few call the manager after all items settled and ask for penalties to be removed after I was told No, and what do you think.... they were removed. One was about 40K in penalties. Quote

Jack from Ohio Posted May 17, 2012 Report Posted May 17, 2012 Looks "photoshopped" or "modified." Skeptical. I have never seen an IRS notice with an insert of infromation like that. Lines of the highlighted(?) text are not parallel with the others. Poor photoshopping or modification at best. Quote
jainen Posted May 17, 2012 Report Posted May 17, 2012 >>Lines of the highlighted(?) text are not parallel<< Of course, and not even the same font. They are both Courier, a fixed-width typeface that makes it easy to count. But the insert looks like thinner letters. In fact it fits 70 characters in the line that reaches to the (apparently trimmed) margin, while the original only fits 69. Also, since we're whining about grammar and usage in another thread, note that the insert has a blatant punctuation error with a comma outside the quotes. Stupid, but still funny! Quote
Max W Posted May 17, 2012 Report Posted May 17, 2012 If it were ligitimate, it would have said "abate" the penalty and most likely some interest as well. Quote
kcjenkins Posted May 23, 2012 Author Report Posted May 23, 2012 Sure it is bogus, such notices never contain a reason, in my experience. But having been a new mother multiple times, I just loved it anyway. And figured a lot of you would too. Quote
