Terry D EA Posted April 17, 2012 Report Posted April 17, 2012 Taxpayer has the right to claim his dependent child. I completed the child's tax return and the parents. Apparently, I overlooked checking the box stating the child is being claimed on someone elses tax return and the parents return got rejected. Would you remove the dependent from the parents return, transmit the return and then amend it a month later along with amended the dependent child's return. Or, would you mail the parents return in? At this late date, I would think the e-file then amend option is the best but I want to hear from others. This is a direct result of being tired and overworked. Quote
jainen Posted April 17, 2012 Report Posted April 17, 2012 >>e-file then amend option is the best<< In my opinion you should not intentionally file a false return. This is another example of how practitioners might be more concerned with convenient office procedures than with the accuracy of their work product. If a return is not eligible for e-file, just mail it. What's the big deal? Then amend the child's return and mail that too. Quote
Kea Posted April 17, 2012 Report Posted April 17, 2012 Or, if you still want to e-file the parents' return, you could put it on extension. Amend child's return. File parents' return in a few weeks. Processing time might work out about the same? Quote
