cpabsd Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 I'm having one of those days where I am blanking on what should be a simple question. College student has a small part time job while away at school in KY. Other than when in school, he is a WV resident. Question is regarding the state tax returns. Should he file WV return showing all income as taxable or KY return. Both states have 183 day residency requirements and also have reciprocity. All income is from wages. College student was claimed on Mom's tax return as dependent. Thanks for the guidance. Quote
Lion EA Posted April 4, 2012 Report Posted April 4, 2012 Temporary absence for education. WV resident return. KY income so if no reciprocity, a KY NR return for KY sourced income. 1 Quote
Jim Oh Bkkr Posted April 5, 2012 Report Posted April 5, 2012 (edited) There is a "special" KY reciprical return. I do mostly Ohio, so verify WV is the same. WV - report all income, pay tax. KY answer 4 or 5 questions, list Employer, and amount withheld, attach WV return copy. Jim Form is 740NPR Edited April 5, 2012 by Jim Oh Bkkr Quote
