David Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 When I performed an e-file check, I received an error message saying that only 30 copies of W-2G are allowed. The return includes 39 copies. I have done previous e-file checks for this return even after all 39 W-2Gs were input and didn't get this error message. Now that I am ready to e-file, I get this error message. Does anyone know a way around this? Thanks. Quote
David Posted February 29, 2012 Author Report Posted February 29, 2012 Thanks for your help. Won't the IRS try to match each W-2G and, therefore, think there are missing W-2Gs being reported? Quote
michaelmars Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 i have always grouped too, as long as the total matches it should be ok Quote
jainen Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 >>as long as the total matches it should be ok<< The return is not eligible for e-filing. So don't do it. What's the big deal about that? You might be able to screw up the paperwork enough to get it through, but why in the world would you want to expose your clients (and yourself) to the increased scrutiny the IRS is able to do with their powerful computers these days? Unless there is a significant tax savings or other benefit, I think following the instructions is the best thing. Quote
kcjenkins Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 I've done them grouped by casino for years, never had a single problem as long as the total matches the total that the IRS has. Quote
jainen Posted February 29, 2012 Report Posted February 29, 2012 >>I've done them grouped by casino for years<< Presumably those were PAST years? How about now? On the other hand, obviously this client likes to take a gamble so give it a spin. 1 Quote
joanmcq Posted March 1, 2012 Report Posted March 1, 2012 I had one of these last year. Had to paper file. He's sworn off gambling...hasn't come in yet, but I have my fingers crossed. Quote
