grandmabee Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 I am filing a return with 3 states. One of the states needs to have the other state return sent to them because of credit for taxes paid to other state. I don't see where you can tell the state efile to send all states to the resident state. Must I paper file states Hope this is clear. it's Monday Quote
Lion EA Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 When I have a NY credit on CT, I have to keep a NY copy here. When I have a NY credit on PA, I have to fax PA the NY copy. Read your state's instructions for how they want you to send them the nonresident return. It will probably be something you or your client do and not something your software does. You will efile all states as usual. (If you do paper file, then attach the copy.) It's just the copy you need to check on. Let us know the states involved. Quote
GeorgeM Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 I have been doing multi state returns for years, and I have never sent any state retruns to other states. None of the states have come back to ask for the other state return as of yet. I have also e-filed all of them. I don't know if the program sends them with the E-file. Quote
michaelmars Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 Agree with George M, i have never sent copies to other states since i started efiling. I have some returns that file in over 10 states too Quote
Gail in Virginia Posted February 21, 2012 Report Posted February 21, 2012 If you claim credit for taxes paid to another state on the Birginia return, or if you exclude non- Viginia income, Virginia is going to insist on a copy of the return filed with the other state showing the raxes paiid or income reported. Usually if I e-file, I fax the copy of the other state. Quote
