I have been under the impression that you can give up to $10.000 to any family member every year without having to pay and taxes on it by both parties. My neighbor tell be different, he says it is $13,000 per year, and you can give $26,000 to your son/daughter and their spouse if the check is made out in both of their names. Is this correct, and if so when did the law change. Can someone direct me to the law that covers this. Thank you and have a wonderful day.

Has anyone had calls from new clients and set up an appointment and fail to show? I have just had my 4th one this season. I cannot believe people set up an appointment and never show up, don't even call back to cancel.

My first form 8829, and was no too happy, when entering the amounts on the form and the balances did not carry forward to the Schedule A. This was a feature in TaxWise. Ryan if you see this try to find out if it can be incorporated in to the 2011 package.

Does a chimney relining qualify for the energy credit?

What I do is as follows: I scan all clients documents with PaperPort. If there are any stock sales, I bring up the sheets in Acrobat, then I select the stock name and right click and copy. Then paste it into the sheet for sales of stock. It saves me the time of typing the names in. Then i use the line tool to mark the item so I know I did that item. I also view all documents in Acrobat, to me it seems easier than going through the papers. I also use the line tool to mark the entry as entered. This works for me, don't know if it will work for you.

I have the weirdest situation. I use Acrobat 8 Pro, and have never seen this happen. I scanned a document of 26 pages using PaperPort 12, and opened it up in Acrobat. What I do is highlight items using the select tool, and copy them to my tax return. All was going fine until I came across one page where I could not select anything and then copy. I tried to rescan the one page and the same thing happened. I have tried to look for something which could be stopping the select tool from working, but no luck. Can anyone tell me anything about this if it has happened to them. :scratch_head:

First, what is stated on the W2 form, is each state represented by an amount earned? Second, what does he do? I believe if he is just a salesperson or company rep., he will not have to file in the states mentioned. If he actually preformed work or service in the state while there he will have to file in all states.

Can a return signed by daughter having power of attorney be filed?

I would like to see a referral sheet where you can enter an amount, like ATX has. My practice lives on referrals.

I left ATX 6 years ago, do only 90 to 95 returns of which 8 are freebies, and don't miss ATX one bit. First it was because of the price, I went with TRX TaxWise and was reasonably happy with the program. The program ran faster than ATX and the printing was 80 percent faster. The only problem with TaxWise is they don't seem to care for the users. They don't make useful changes to the program to help the user. This year with TRX PRO I really like the program, it has features like multiple states being completed and the credit being issued to the home state with ease. The printing I found very easy and very fast. There were minimal errors in the conversion process. The e-filing of returns is super, and the e-file manager is excellent. Learning the entry of information was quite simple after 2 or 3 returns. The capeability of having different folders for the clients makes it easier to find out which ones are not yet completed and the field where you can enter the status of the return is great. All in all I will never return to ATX, this is a far superior program.

Client has gone cross country to WA from CT. Will be working in WA for a few years. Owns a home in CT, no one living in the home, does he still have to file a CT return? WA has no income tax.

You should file a part year resident in each state. I know CT and Ma and RI allow this PA and MD should do the same.

I don't use ATX, but I have windows 7 64 bit and have been told to run some programs as the administrator. If that don't work try right clicking on the icon, and go to compatability mode, and try running it in windows XP mode. Hope that works for you.

You don't do it in TRX, it should be on the 1040 V as an option for them.

I just finished my 1st amended return with TRX. It was a breeze, the easiest 1040X I have ever prepared. The change did not affect the state, so I don''t know about hte state return. The more I see of this program the more I like it. I don't believe I will ever go back to ATX, this program is so much simpler. No waiting long periods to print a return. Prints to PDF, I use Adobe acrobat professional, and am able to enter comments on the letter. Once you get used to it entering information is so easy on any form. :D:D

If you keep a computer file for each clinet just save the excel file to that clients file.

They Walk Among Us and Many Work Retail I was at the checkout of a K-Mart. The cashier rang up $46.64 charges. I gave her a fifty dollar bill. She gave me back $46.64. I gave the money back to her and told her that she had made a mistake in MY favour. She became indignant and informed me she was educated and knew what she was doing, and returned the money again. I gave her the money back same scenario! I departed the store with the $46.64. They Walk Among Us and Many Work Retail I walked into a Starbucks with a buy-one-get- one-free coupon for a Grande Latte. I handed it to the girl and she looked over at a little chalkboard that said 'buy one-get one free.' 'They're already buy-one- get-one-free, ' she said, 'so I guess they're both free'. She handed me my free Lattes and I walked out the door. They Walk Among Us! One day I was walking down the beach with some friends when one of them shouted, 'Look at that dead bird!' Someone looked up at the sky and said, 'Where?' They Walk Among Us! While looking at a house, my brother asked the real estate agent which direction was north because, he explained, he didn't want the sun waking him up every morning. She asked, 'Does the sun rise in the North?. When my brother explained that the sun rises in the East, and has for sometime, she shook her head and said, 'Oh I don't keep up with all that stuff.' They Walk Among Us!! I used to work in technical support for a 24/7 call center. One day I got a call from an individual who asked what hours the call center was open. I told him, 'The number you dialed is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.' He responded, 'Is that Eastern or Pacific time?' Wanting to end the call quickly, I said, 'Uh, Pacific.' They Walk Among Us! My sister has a lifesaving tool in her car designed to cut through a seat belt if she gets trapped. She keeps it in the trunk. They Walk Among Us! My friends and I went out to buy beer and noticed that the cases were discounted 10%. Since it was a big party, we bought 2 cases. The cashier multiplied 2 times 10% and gave us a 20% discount. They Walk Among Us! I couldn't find my luggage at the airport baggage area, so I went to the lost luggage office and told the woman there that my bags never showed up. She smiled and told me not to worry because she was a trained professional and I was in good hands. 'Now,' she asked me, has your plane arrived yet?' They Walk Among Us! While working at a pizza place I observed a man ordering a small pizza to go. He appeared to be alone and the cook asked him if he would like it cut into 4 pieces or 6. He thought about it for some time before responding. 'Just cut it into 4 pieces; I don't think I'm hungry enough to eat 6 pieces.' Yep, They Walk Among Us! They Walk Among Us, and they Reproduce

Can someone tell me that if a couple earns over 50,000. but it is all earned by the wife, the husband has only retirement income, are they entitled to $400 each? The form calculates it as such. The e-file was rejected stating that one of them received a payment from either SS, VA or railroad retirement. But neither received any such payment. I understand that it is a work for pay credit and the husband did not work, but nowhere on the form allows you to state so. What do you do in this case? :scratch_head:

In TRX PRO I have created a new folder for clients, this feature is great. What I have done is created a new folder called Completed, and any returns that are complete I have moved to this folder. This is great because the completed ones do not show up in the Default clien list and it is easier to know what clients are not yet done. I also have exported as in ATX any completed clients. This serves as a backup of all returns. The more I see of this program the more I like it. Everything is so much faster than ATX especially printing of returns. I have not yet done a return with 3 states, I am wondering if all will flow through as in 2 states. I have found a way to enter the dates the client will receive their checks either DD or check. Simply print preview the return, if you have adobe you can use the typewriter feature and type in on the face sheet the dates. I beleive this will work with other PDF programs.
