  1. I have had this problem when ATX had downloaded an update and is having trouble installing it when the program is opened. Tech support had me go to the update folder and delete the file that told ATX there was an update.

    Remote Access

I use a program called gotoassist at gotoassist.com. Since it is internet based, I have to have someone at the other end to enter a code and say ok to my logging in. Do both computers have windows xp pro? if they do' why don't you use remote desktop which is furnished with xp pro? It is more difficult to configure but you can log in without anyone being at the other end.
  3. Beg for forgivness and point out that the taxpayer is trying very hard to get current and will never be a bad taxpayer again.
  4. From page 8 of the 1041 instructions: When To File For calendar year estates and trusts, file Form 1041 and Schedule(s) K-1 on or before April 15, 2008. For fiscal year estates and trusts, file Form 1041 by the 15th day of the 4th month following the close of the tax year. For example, an estate that has a tax year that ends on April 30, 2008, must file Form 1041 by August 15, 2008. If the due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, file on the next business day.

  10. Using Rev. Proc. 2003-43 you could ask to be an S-Corp since inception then all his draws could really be draws.

  12. Thanks so much Cathy for all the ideas. I am sorry to hear about your disc. I have two bad ones in my lower back. They are a real pain in the ......... ummm ...................... back. I was contacted by the client's investment advisor. He is the one who realized she was not taking RMD so she probably really was not notified. I will let them know of all your great suggestions.

    CCH SURVEY

I had not tried the link since I knew I was not going to take the survey. I just tried the original and it says the same thing - thank you for completing our survey... and done." I think that is pretty funny. They couldn't even post a good link.
  14. I have United States clients who's parents and family live in China. The clients got married in China recently and were given cash gifts in excess of $100,000. Are there any reporting requirements?
  15. I also had an HP 4 that I used until it died. I replaced it with an HP 4200 which is just as much of a workhorse.
  16. I am in the KC area. Let me know where you end up. The years she did take distributions, she did it just to have some extra money, not to satisfy the RMD. She did not know that she was required to take minimum distributions and the IRA trustee did not inform her.

  18. I have a client who turned 70.5 in 1996. She has an IRA. She did not take any distributions on 1996-2000. She took enough distributions in 2001-2005 to cover the minimum. She did not take any distributions in 2006 or 2007. What do I need to do to report this and make this situation right?
  19. At the top of this page under the donate button there is a choice for "My Controls". In my controls, on the left side there is a menu. Under "Personal Profile" there is a choice for "Edit Avatar Settings". When you go there, there is a place in the middle at the bottom that says "Upload a new image from your computer". Click on the browse button and find the picture you want.

That is the way it looks to me also, line 16 is Overpayment, line 19 is how much you want refunded.
  21. I do it the other way around. I get up at 3 or 4 am and get to work early before everyone wakes up to bother me.
  22. I thought if the company did not deduct the premiums the payouts were not taxable.
  23. Thats a great idea. Thanks
  24. Form 8606 worked. Thanks LindaB. The code was a "J early distribution no known exception" which did not make it nontaxable.
  25. I have a client who always overpays me. I keep decreasing her fee and she keeps increasing her tip.
