  1. I don't use ATX, but you probably have a check box to tell it that this is a complete taxable disposition of the property. That should release all the suspended losses.
  2. If a SE individual has employees and gives paid sick leave, he can take the credit on his 941s, yes? I don't think anyone/any company is getting checks, just a payroll credit for paid sick leave within the parameters of this bill.
  3. I can send batch extensions, but only for $0 owed and not for all states, so it's still time-consuming -- and I'm relieved.
  4. Hubby and I have been tipping well (better than well) minimum wage workers, food service workers, etc. And, giving earlier to our church and two local food pantries; food pantries are overwhelmed providing food to families whose children are home and not receiving free breakfasts and lunches at school. We on the ground can often see who in our community needs help better than a distant government can. Turn your check over to your town social worker for her to disburse. You can put it to good use.
  5. First the IRS has to reprogram their computers, get new schema to software companies; software companies reprogram and get tested by IRS. Finally, software companies issue updates to us. I'm telling my clients to use IRS's DirectPay for now.
  6. With each announcement, we know less and less!
  7. I have my NY commuters download their signature pages from CCH's FileShare and wet sign and return to me via mail/fax/scan & upload/whatever method is convenient for them. Some take pictures on their phones to text to me; lousy quality so I e-file but tell them to mail me the original. If they're sending a check or other documents, they might use UPS/FedEx. They didn't sign electronically. I just receive it electronically or via mail/UPS/FedEx. So, that's what I'm doing this year. If the filing deadline is truly extended to 15 July and they don't owe, I'll probably receive more via mail and have the actual wet signature for my files. Because I can store the signature pages electronically, I don't think anyone could tell the difference. But, NY is the only state that will not accept eSign.
  8. I don't use Verifyle, but read a work-around on another site. Send to one spouse who returns it to you. Then send that signed document to the other spouse to sign and return. Don't forget to log in your verification method details to be saved with the document.
  9. So far, I think, the 6/15 estimates are still due 6/15. I've been advising my clients to use IRS's DirectPay and their state equivalent for ES payments. If they already scheduled 4/15 payments, the client has to call the IRS and state to cancel and then use DirecPay + state or paper vouchers mailed with checks.
  10. The April ES payment was specifically mentioned as moving to 15 July. The June ES payment was left out and seems to remain at 15 June.
  11. It applies to 1Q ES payments. I didn't see if the June ES can be extended.
  12. That's exactly what I suggested to my friend, the soon-to-be grandmother. I know a couple of CT midwives, but didn't have a NY midwife to suggest. But, I did suggest they look into a home birth with a midwife. Problem is, they lived together a long time before marrying and getting pregnant, so almost-mother is nearly or already 40 and being treated as a high-risk pregnancy. My friend/almost-grandmother is understandably worried, no matter where DIL gives birth.
  13. Send him prayers, lots of prayers, and thanx for giving us hope!
  14. A friend's daughter-in-law is expecting any minute in NYC. Her ob/gyn said this morning that there are no hospital beds now. He told her to call when she's in labor, and they will tell her what hospital, if any, to go to.

No. Retirement funds do NOT get a step up/down in basis at DOD but continue as before as they would for the decedent if he were alive. (I think; my brain as reached the fried stage; too many dates to remember now.)
  16. Isn't interest a law and would require Congress to act, not just Mnuchin saying so?
  17. Have your client research his cost basis in his shares. Purchase document. Broker. Investor Relations at the company. If you have time, help him remember date and look up on BigCharts.com. Use zero for basis.
  18. Exactly. In our role as tax preparers (they already have bookkeepers) our job is to accurately report what happened last year. When we do our DD, we might find out that something that already happened was wrong. Case by case. I always explain to them what was wrong and how to do it correctly this year. But, depending on their reactions, what the issue was, and probably how I'm feeling that day, I might see an alternative reporting or hand the person their papers back or check in with them in a couple months to see how their mid-year books look or send them a firing letter when I have time.
  19. I don't mind. It helps me know that we're all in this together. This community can discuss and support each other.
  20. Could've transferred in from another brokerage. Ask your client.
  21. If they are/were employees, they can apply for benefits. I've already had a hair stylist contact me (she previously dropped off her tax documents) to get her W-2 info for an unemployment application. State by state regulations.
  22. No losses. Just a friend in Taiwan who is fine, her family's fine, her students are fine, her colleagues are fine. Because Taiwan immediately closed schools and gathering places, and residents self-quarantined. Their health services are coping fine. Sympathy to Medlin. Stay safe & healthy with friends and family; nature can be a great healer, physically and emotionally.
  23. The article JohnH posted in another thread had a chart of countries and when the virus arrived. Taiwan had the same date as the US. I have a friend who teaches elementary school in Taiwan. They closed the schools for a couple weeks and taught online. When they reopened schools, everyone -- students, teachers, staff, visitors, everyone -- gets their temperature taken outside to be allowed in. Every Day. Our local schools closed just last week, and it's still a district by district decision. We are not doing a good job of self-quarantining, and the states and federal government are not requiring strong measures. We WILL overwhelm our health system soon.
  24. Yay, my Wednesday biz client cancelled, so I don't have to cancel him! I go to his biz site and really didn't want to; I've canceled face-to-face appointments. But, he's my biggest client; I work at his site a couple times/month creating reports to his clients, overseeing his bookkeeper, etc. I completed his S-corporation returns and e-filed, so that was done a week ago. I was dreading canceling, but now I don't have to. Yay!
  25. I know CT's governor spoke with the governors of surrounding states to work out something common for the northeast... With such a long lag before one gets symptoms, the only way to stop the spread is to severely limit contact.
