  1. Call your software company NOT. Look for a cancel or change status or hold or...button. Good luck.
  2. In CT you receive a credit for a tax LIABILITY paid to another jurisdiction, up to the amount CT would've charged. So, if this client has NO tax liability in other states, then he might not have a credit in his home state.
  3. You have to tell the IT-203C which spouse has no NY sourced income.
  4. I also have shied away from doing payroll to keep from being tied down. But, I hired a part-time assistant and now have my own to deal with. I'm using QB, which I get at a deep discount as a ProAdvisor. I just type in her hours for the period. Direct deposit. Info is automatically put in my QB file. They have several levels of payroll. Demos on their web site. Just read that Bank of America has a new payroll service. If you use their bank and if your direct deposit employees use B of A, then it's free! Didn't pay attention to the details since I'm already using QB, but worth checking out.
  5. I think it asks you a negative question, like which spouse has NO NY income? So, check how you answered all the questions. The right amounts should carry from the W-2s to the right states. But, that certification needs a check box or a S vs. T or something answered correctly.
  6. If you're driving, try very hard NOT to have to fill up while driving through CT. We have high gas taxes so high gas prices. I try to make it to RI or MA to fill up, or at least far away from Fairfield County and far away from highway interchanges.
  7. Have a wonderful vacation and a great rest of your life with your new beloved.
  8. I have a client with 4,400 trades, mostly wash sales! When I'm lucky, he's late getting me his information so we file off-season when I have more time for data entry.
  9. I received my LETTER today.
  10. I got a call just last week from ATX asking if I needed to buy their software or if I was happy with my new software....
  11. Boys would love the Liberty Bell, and there's a great science museum there, very hands on. Boys would also love the Boston Pops and putting their history in context around the Boston area. As much as I love Newport, RI, for boys I'd do Mystic Seaport, CT, instead. An amazing aquarium/amusement park with rides or get in the water with a dolphin and the Seaport with tall ships and Long Island Sound beaches and.... Go up to Gillette Castle where an actor designed a different wooden lock for each door and set up elaborate reflecting decor to spy on anyone who came to his door or guests who went into his liquor cabinet. Williamsburg, VA, is also very hands on for boys; and you can always treat them to Bush Gardens before you go home!
  12. Just make sure the nursing home resident is NOT the dependent of some one else.
  13. If someone in your home or office gets migraines or has epilepsy or other seizure disorders, do NOT use the florescent bulbs.
  14. 31 March?
  15. It's common for a household employer to pay for his employee's FICA. Employee might choose not to have FIT and SIT w/h. Employer settles up for federal payroll taxes, including FUTA on his Schedule H with his Form 1040. Check with what his state requires for household employer filings.
  16. I'm going to take your advice re the icons; I can see where that'll help. I'm still trying different things, but seem to like the interview view. And, I'll tell Alex you watched her shiver!
  17. That's good to know, Michael. Thank you. This is my first year with Profx, but when I get up to speed maybe I can be of some help to you next season. I'm in CT. My stepdaughter jumped into chilly LI Sound today to raise funds for Special Olympics. By the way, I've found Profx support, both techies and tax program, absolutely outstanding. That's worth every penny I pay for this program as I'm on my own and learning this software. And, as I learn what it has to offer, I'm getting better. I did discover today, though, that it's possible to trash a return and it's backup and lose everything. Apparently a frozen computer lost a return or made it think it was locked up and inaccessible, and the way my assistant answered a question when she rebooted the frozen computer and re-entered Profx lost the backup (or the other way around). Anyway, we were left with only one version of that return, and it was empty. There was nothing left for the techie to help us with for that return, but he was very helpful about how to handle such things in the future. Oh well, I'm just giving my very-part-time assistant the simple returns; so she'll be able to redo this single secretary who just retired on Wednesday evening when she returns. I wasn't having her backup to an external drive, since she just does one return at a time; but I left a flash on her desk and will make sure she knows how to use it. Just need to vent about that situation!
  18. If they're not local, mail them the return with a note to sign and mail. If local, ask them to stop in to pick up a return to sign and mail. Do not mail returns for clients; you have no control over the USPS. At least you get a code telling you what went wrong with e-filing.
  19. Guess you click on the New Sheet icon to add a new line. I was searching on things like "Add Lines" and not finding anything! Need to learn a whole new terminology now...
  20. I'm a ProSystem fx newbie and have a question. How do I add multiple lines on a Schedule, for instance, or any other form which might need extra entries? I'm in Interview but can switch to Worksheet if the technique is simpler.
  21. or..."This doesn't come up every year, so let me research the current law and get back to you..." "...research any recent law changes..."
  22. Isn't this great?! I've learned so much on this board. Thanks to all who share their time and talents.
  23. Your bank will probably ignore any corporate resolution you give them that requires two signatures anyway.
