  1. Thanks to all who responded-great info- but that's what I've come to expect from this board.
  2. Anyone have an outline of the process they would recommend or have used - i.e. things to consider, record retention, scanning software, efiling, etc. Yes, I'm still one of those with paper everything so I need all the help I can get. I am enrolled with IRS and have my EFIN although I have never efiled a return. The saving grace, if there is one, is that its a very small practice - less than a 100 clients, but still soo many file cabinets.
  3. Braeden - we need you to respond to the TRX thread TRX now offering ATX

  4. One option to get you close would be to take the amount of used space on your hard drive as KC explained above, and subtract the total of the programs listed in the "add/delete programs" section in control panel.
  5. There is also a definition (at the site mentioned in post before) explaining what a qualified pension plan is.
  6. This is from the PA Department of Revenue's website: "Is retirement or pension income subject to Personal Income Tax? Question: What retirement or pension income is subject to state and local taxes? Answer: As long as you retire and receive distributions from a qualified pension plan by either meeting a years service or age requirement in the plan, your retirement income is not taxable for state purpose. Local taxes are not administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue but by local taxing authorities. You will need to contact your local tax authority for assistance. If you do not know who your Local Tax authority is, this information may be obtained by visiting the Department of Community and Economic Development web site at http://munstatspa.dced.state.pa.us/Registers.aspx" Additional help at www.revenue.state.pa.us/ - click on Individual taxpayers, then on commonly asked questions and then search for pension - hope this helps.
  7. Page 1 of 1040 - line 29 - click on the "bunny".
  8. TRX's website is trxalliance.com. Check it out for yourselves. Sounds like a great deal.
  9. I just got off the phone with TRX - the $299 (plus S&H) includes all 1040 forms, all states with a tax, free unlimited e-filing for both. Also includes the business (including corps, s-corps, partnerships, trusts) forms - but no e-filing. The $699 package includes unlimited e-filing regardless of entity type.
  10. Thanks Margaret - unchecking the box worked, maybe one of these days I will get to be "somewhat paperless".
  11. Thanks for your help
  12. Anyone having a problem with the state return not printing in the "filing" copy even though it clearly shows up on the "print tax return" screen? Any suggestions?
  13. You have outlined the correct procedure - tax preparer completes form 5329 - uses code 05 - no penalty. Issuer of 1099R has used the correct distribution code assuming your client is under 59 1/2.
  14. Hanover Jim - this is MDCPA - are you efiling this year?

  15. I would agree with Jainen, with no recapture if taxpayer stays in home for at least 36 months - CCH cite is same as taxbilly's .
  16. PA Department of Revenue has a legal letter ruling No. SUT-04-004 (google it just like it's shown) - this may have the answer you are looking for.
  17. I agree with Jainen - if the SUV, otherwise qualifies i.e. business %, etc., it doesn't make any difference if it's new or used.
  18. I agree with Jainen and JohnH. The client, or someone else, may have have thought that SSI was qualifying income and filed the return.
  19. Anyone out there using ATX's document manager - I am still in the dark ages (paper) as far as documentation - any feedback is appreciated-thanks.
